spinning classes

spinning classes

Does anyone participate in spinning classes? Are they extremely vigorous? This is something I want to take up but I'm nervous that I'll only be able to 'spin' for 3 minutes. Thoughts? Comments? Drama is welcome.

DH & I did this a few days a week before the wedding. The class was for an hour. It was so intense but you felt great after (after you got used to it).
You do what you can. If you cant go fast or stand up then you dont. You go at your own pace. I didnt care that there were people in the class that were MUCH more advanced than me.

Burns ALOT of calories!!!

ETA: Buy biker shorts with padding. I could not feel my buttocks region for a few days after the first class. The shorts help but still hurts.

The classes are pretty hardcore, but just go at your own pace. At my first class, I couldn't stand up and pedal for more than a minute, but it does get better. And your asss will be really sore, but it somehow gets used to it. I got to Fitness Incentive in Babylon and the instructors are really helpful and so are the other members. Just make sure taht you get help setting up your bike the first time.

thanks! I can't walk up a flight of stairs without getting out of breath I'm not sure how I'm going to survive a spining class. The padded biker shorts sounds like a good idea, thanks for the advice

Me 2!! Im so lazy. DH def. helped with motivation.
We also went to spinning at 8am on sundays, not every sunday . Thats how dedicated we were.

Also buy the padded seat. That helps too. Try a few classes without it and see if you can deal with it. I couldnt lol.
I bought the shorts and seat at D I C KS.

Cycle is the most personalized group fitness class there is. You control everything. Of course it is instructor guided, but usually the rooms are dark - except at LA fitness haha, the instructor will give you guidance on resistance and speed, but ultimatly you are in control. It can get tough but it's worth it. It does take about 5 rides to get used to the seat - I don't use the shorts or gel seat and I don't even feel the seat anymore. Definitely try it!

I've put my super out of shape never been in a gym beginner clients right into spin and the survived and are hooked now.

Thanks , Belle was soooo pissed with the devil horns i had to bribe her with a baby carrot in order to look at me ( she loves baby carrots haha)

I think they are not too expensive 20-20 maybe ?Also , if you go , you let the instructor know its your first class and u can go at your own pace

i actually take spin all the time at LA Fitness in lake success. actually i am going to the 6:45 PM class tonight

it does take awhile to get used to but the beauty of it is you can go at your own pace. you can adjust the tension level to your fitness level. i luv it. burns so many calories.

btw, the best classes in my opinion at la fitness are:

Saturday - 8:00 AM ugh i know its early & the 9:15 is ok. but i personally like the music & personality of the instructor better at the 8:00 AM

Monday - 6:45 PM w/Richard.

Wed - 6:45 PM w/Maude

Sunday - i think Maude does 8:00 AM.

She is in awesome shape so gives me the motivation.

btw, last thurday i took the 7:00 kick box class for the first time. it was killer but i liked it.

i'll keep any eye out for you!

Spin is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!! Kicks my azz!!! You get used to it within the first couple of weeks- at first I couldn't stand up and pedal or sprint... but after a couple of weeks I was fine. I never used the padded shorts or the seat- I just couldn't sit for a few days after my first class and eventually got used to it lol But seriously- I love it! Burns a ton of calories and you feel great after! Make sure you let the instructor know it's your first class so that they can show you how to set up your bike.

That's good to know, thank you! Are all these classes really crowded? It's intimidating with a room full of people who know what they're doing I took belly dancing for a month, I'm very fickle.

well tonite's class wasn't for some reason. the saturday class is very crowded. she is very popular instructor. btw. u do need to sign up for them at the front desk. i really wouldn't worry you will be fine. alot of people don't even finish the whole class & leave. you can always stay towards the back of the room.

trust me if i can do it. ..anybody can
