I don't think anyone chooses to be a homosexual.....but that they were born that way!

Born that way....
There is a big difference between Choosing at certain points in your life to 'hook up' with someone of the same sex and actually being homosexual.
A friend of mine that is gay told me that he knew from a very early age... he jokes that he was checking out Joey in the sandbox instead of Susie. Another told me there would be no way he would 'choose' the discrimination and difficulties he has faced in his life such as gay bashing and being disowned by some members of his family. who would choose that unless it were really who you were?

I think a large percentage of gay people are just born that way. I thinkt here was actually an episode on 20/20 or date line about this. Some group (dont know the name) chose a few children when they were young and videotaped them every few years....and once when they were older..about 20 or so. It turns out the ones who were gay showed gay qualities when they were younger i.e. clothes and the toys they played with and vice versa..those who grew up straight played with the proper toys and wore the clothes a boy or girl should wear.It was very interesting

i think they're born that way---but sometimes its confusing as to the idea of choice when you throw those that 'choose' to be bi-sexual. sometimes i'm not sure i understand bi-sexuality at all.
but for the most part---born that way.

I think they are born that way. I know a little boy who, at the age of 5, openly had crushes on other boys in his class, and loves girly things.

me too. i don't think ANYONE would choose to be gay when u see all the hardship and discrimination it entails

I definitely say born that way, I actually have 2 friends who are gay (one is a girl and one a guy) and we have had this convo. I dont think you choose who you love. I think there are some guys/girls(more girls) that will kiss a girl or hook up with a girl just for curiousity

Born that way. I simply don't believe that someone would choose to be an outcast in the eys of society, denied important rights, have the possibility of losing important relationships, etc. I watched one of my best friends in high school come out. She was in long relationships with guys but was always unhappy. Such a beautiful girl too - the kind that all of the guys want to get with. Then she started hanging out with this girl and labeled herself bisexual. Clearly, she was just scared of fully coming out because not too long after, she came out and said she was a lesbian. Her parents gave her such a hard time. But I honestly never saw her happier than when she was in a relationship with a woman. The difficulties she went through int he process of coming out though took a toll on her. I felt horrible and just tried to offer as much support as I could. So no, expecially after experiencing that with her, I don't think anyone chooses to be gay because it can often mean leading a very difficult life.

I am torn. Pesonally I believe its just a biological thing; as others have said, you're just born liking men or women. I don't think it's much of a choice. HOWEVER, at our wedding we had four gay couples..pretty prevelent among our family and friends...and two of those people, have told us on several occasions that they made it a choice.
They said yes they were attracted to both sexes, btu just felt more at peace with their own sex. So in that sense I suppose they did make 'a a choice.' And I have to respect that because they are very adamant on it, despite being happer with one another after 8 years than they ever were with any of the men they had relationships with.

Both actually.
I believe that many are born homosexual, however I also believe that some homosexuals are that way because of environmental factors. If you've ever noticed, there are many gay couples that raise children. A striking number of those children grow up to also be gay. Coincidence? Doubtful. I'm not saying that if you're gay and you raise children you will make them gay -- many are straight....but the fact that they grow up around gays and are mostlikely used to (or comfortable with) the lifestyle, makes it something that feels natural to them. Therefore, I think some become gay because of their environment.

I believe they are born that way. I highly doubt that people would choose to be homosexual and deal with some of the stigmas and prejudice they do JUST to be 'gay'
my uncle basically disowned his son. I do NOT believe that my cousin chose that knowing what would happen.. Thankfully things are better now though, but still..

These Threads have been very Touchy for me. My Uncle (Godfather) is Gay.
I think that he was born like that. He can remember very little feeling differently then other boys. I feel like Gay people are Born like that. They do not choose to be Gay. My Uncle didn't wake up one morning & say 'I am Gay' IMO!!!!
