Spinoff of the US having the least amount of sex..
We are having a discussion here at work:
Do you think that European men or men not born in this country, are more romantic? Do you think that their culture makes it easier to be overwhelmingly romantic?Even to the point of what we may consider cheesy?
(I think this was also mentioned on Sex in the City, when Carrie is dating Alexsander )

Yes def. american men have no concept of real romance anymore. I dated one guy who was born in france. I have to say that man romanced the hell out of me and he was only there till 13! It wasn't just here we go to dinner or here is a date to a show it was playing his guitar singing to me, reading poetry, walking by lakes with him, having picnics, watching silent movies then having coffee over it at a special place.
BUT it was nice to have but in the end we really didn't connect so it ended. So now I opt for a 7-11 rose and dinner at applebeas but I am much happier and in love with my husband then frenchie.

I think thats what most ppl would think and in the US there was always this whole idea about european men and in movies they show like they hunky italian or french guy who is so romantic. Honestly, i know european men and dont mean those who grew up here their whole lives so like true european men, and are they romantic? NO lol. I actually feel its the opposite, some might be but at the same time those who are usually are doing it to just sweep a woman off their feet to sleep with them but i dont see most of them being like that when they are in relationships. Yes there are some but just like here, you have some here and then you have some that are not.
I do think however, that alot of european men are great about taking women to nice restaurants and really knowing how to wine and dine them, but again not all. Some men here are slacking on what to do on dates and where to take them and all that in the beginning of relationships.

I studied in Italy in college and met a lot of European men...I found their 'romantic ways' corny and cheesy they turned me off
I also got the feeling that they thought I was #1 a rich american and #2 easy
too bad Im not either

yeah sometimes it can come across as fake and that they would do that with every woman they meet. They know what to do to get a woman in bed but then once they are with you doesnt mean they would be like that

i think american men are more romantic - at least from what i've heard about the way people are in Italy i don't know just from stories i hear about DH's family, his family's friends, it seems old school the way they treat women and what we would think is disrespectful

I think you nailed it!!!! i feel the same way. I think many do see it as they are the men of a household and all those macho ideas. I would say alot of european men have this typical outlook. Alot of parents try to encourage their kids to maybe date someone with the same background, my mom NEVER did lol and said i was better off. Her friends would ask why i never date someone with the same background and my mom would say dont you think she is better off lol. ALot of them would also say 'oh well she is dating now but when she gets married i am sure she will' even then my mom said she highly doubts it. I dont like the male european thinking, not all men of course but in general i would say

Ditto except for DH its his Wii or Sportsline!
Honestly, I think American men are more romantic but also very lazy! They can turn on the charm and romance but arent always inclined to go the extra mile.

I dated this guy once, his name was Carlos. I have no idea what nationality he was - spanish I am thinking? His family was FROM wherever it was he was from ... but he grew up here. But he took me out to this awesome restaurant, took me back to his house (parents house) to meet them, played the piano for me ... got me a big bear, strawberries and cream, and took me to a park I think to eat them WITH CHAMPAGNE.
ALL IN ONE NIGHT!
And yes it was nice .. and impressive ... but at the end of the night when he dropped me off, he would not let go of my face in the car. He was sucking on it so hard I thought my teeth were going to be vacuumed up! So I said goodnight, got out and never called him again. I knew what he wanted, and he wasn't going to get it.
Now, did he do all that because he was Spanish and that's what they do or just because he's American and that's what GUYS do when they want some? Who knows. Some guys are just a little more romantic about it - but if that is what they want - they will try to get it SOMEHOW.

my ex of 8 years was spanish and i dated alot of spanish guys. They definitely know how to get what they want but the same way as european men, they have the VERY macho outlook. That was my biggest problem with my ex, very controlling and felt the man is the head of a household he was born here though so was very american but at the same time had a strong spanish heritage. He also had to go back to south america for a few years bc his dad was a diplomat and lived there. His family there was very powerful and they had chauffeurs, maids, big homes and stuff like that, and when you grow up in south america like this, i know a few of them. They always think they are better than most ppl, that was another problem i HATED that, and the worst part is that he was discriminating against his own hispanic people. I loved spanish food, especially colombian food and would always go to all spanish neighborhoods to go out to eat and he never wanted to go and when he finally did he was such a D*CK and would say horrible things, that always pissed me off. They really believed they had blue blood

ITA with the controlling part! I had a longtime bf from abroad and he was insanely controlling and suspicious. One night he got into the passenger seat of my car and was like 'who was sitting here, why is the seat moved back?!!' I knew I had to end things at that point. I think that it does depend on the individual man but as a whole foreign men have a more machismo attitude.

OMG YES!!!! lol i mean he was suspicious about everything it was insane and really went overboard. IT was why we broke up too, my friend mentioned one thing and he just assumed the stupidest thing and it was crazy, i just got so upset and fed up with it that i ended it right then and there and never looked back. Even 2 of his friends yelled at him that night and told him to stop bc of how ridiculous it was.
