Spinoff to Cookie's thread: Name something you love now that you HATED as a kid

PEANUT BUTTER! used to hate the stickiness of it as a kid and now I adore peanut butter and banana sandwiches on toast and apples with peanut butter-my fave balanced snack.

I guess because my mom cooked the heck out of 'em that they were always blech. Especially broccoli - it's supposed to be GREEN not grey.

(eyes looking towards heaven - sorry mom, but sometimes your cooking was awful. But I'd give anything for a bowl of your chicken soup right now)

aww! I rmemeber those days! SOGGY apsarugus! YECH! I have a GREAT recipe for asparagus though lol if anyone wants it.-even my bro and dad like it.

Believe it or not, potatoes. And beans. I really hated any potato product except for McDonalds fries or tater tots or something that didn't really taste like potato. To this day I don't like thick steak fries but I can eat a baked potato. As for the beans, I would freak out if I found any in my soup, wouldn't eat chili, parents always had to make annoying substitutions with the waiters in Mexican places, and when I did find them I'd line them up around the outside of my plate. Now I love 'em.

Someone recently made me dinner that included canned asparagus

i adamantly REFUSED to eat lettuce of any kind as a child--it made me wanna vomit

one day as an adult -- i tried a caesar salad and loved it. i realized i just hated salad with all the crap in it that my mom made... i just like a basic caesar salad --- dressing, parmesean and croutons. or my own version of a cobb salad--lettuce, bleu cheese crumbles, eggs, and bacon

so while i might be picky with it--at least i do eat it now

I remember canned asparagus. It was limp and a strange green color to begin with, and then my mom would boil it instead of just heating it up.

Same here. I hated it with a passion. I also did not like strawberries and now I love them too. Too bad you have to wait so long for them to be in season
