Now that you are married - is gift-giving not as much fun anymore? What I mean is, for all the DH gave me this weekend - he then sends roses on V-Day - which we all know is insanely expensive. Although I love them, at the same time - I'm mentally calculating all that we should be doing with that money, what bill it should go to paying off, etc. Now that we're married, I don't think giving/receiving gifts anymore is as guiltless as it was before. Anyone else feel this way?

Its definitely not as guiltless. Anything he buys for me, I immediately think of what it cost.
But Im not really a Valentines person. I would rather he give me flowers on any other day. Its a lot less important when you are each others valentine all the time. Sounds very corny, I know..but true.
So what Im trying to say is it has its advantages.

Definitely..we just went to dinner when we usually brought gifts for each other! Since our anniversary is in a month we decided that was enough.
Yes, I mentally calculate the cost too.

We had that exact conversation today when Dh came home from work...' sorry I don't have roses I was about to stop but then I figured you would rather spend the money on a palm tree or something for the front landscaping'
Dh proposed on Valentine's Day 2002... so it's pretty hard for him to top that special weekend! We just did cards and I made him breakfast and he made me dinner out on our patio.

I totally agree..note from hubby : This is a special day in some eyes, but every day with you good or bad is special to me . . . having you and Amaya makes all 365 days of the year Valentines day for me so, therefore here are roses for you just to say happy Valentine . . . love and kises as always.
I get flowers for different occasions..no specific reason but the good thing about it is, he is not frivolous with money usually so its a perk to get them.

Yes we did feel some guilt even though we both enjoyed our gifts.

We work it out. Our anniversary is two weeks later, so we combine the gifts. One year we go on a vacation, another year we get each other some luxury gifts, and other years we just do the candy, flowers, dinner thing. It depends on the year and what went on with $$. There has also been the lingerie years. Then after that we are both March babies and we have to take that into consideration too...there's always a strategy.
