If your family has superstitions, do you follow them too? do you believe in them? Have you ever not followed a superstition and been 'jinxed' as a result?

Re: Spinoff to superstitions...
MIL has followed them because of her mother and grandmother. DH thinks it's a crock and so do I. MIL always yells at us!

I don't believe in superstitions. I think bad things can happen and it's easy to attribute them to not following a superstition.
That being said, my family, immediate and extended, in-laws, have and follow superstitions.

Yeah I sometimes wonder if it's just because a person just grows up doing something because they're told to follow that, so it just becomes like second nature kwim?
like not opening an umbrella indoors, i was always yelled at when i was a kid if i tried to, and so now it's just ingrained in my brain not to... not because i particularly know why, or what it even means because it goes wayy back to when i was a kid.... but i just can't bring myself to do it now lol cuz i don't wanna find out.

not superstitious.....
but this lady (a total stranger) told my MIL that we should wear yellow underwear inside out for NYE - she actually saw this woman shopping on NYE a few years ago - so my MIL (who is superstitious and has lots of italian superstitions) goes out and buys herself, my SIL and me yellow undies and we all wore them inside out for that NYE - and now every new years since i have been doing it i don't know why i do it b/c im not superstitious - but maybe i am?
for the wedding we didn't follow any.....
i saw DH after 12 on the night before the wedding
he saw me in my dress before the wedding day (but that is b/c of the horrible bridal salon that i hate and will review when i do my wedding review)
we saw eachother before the wedding ceremony
but now i do this underwear thing and i wont put shoes on a table b/c its 'bad luck' so i don't know if i am?

I totally agree. Bad or annoying things happen all the time to people. It's just easier I guess to blame it on something. Sometimes it's also just tradition. Because you're parents do it, you do it, then your children do it, and so on and so forth. it's funny. Pretty harmless stuff... just kind of useless. lol.
I can't think of any superstitions my family might have. My grandmother seems to have crazy ideas, but she also believes in reincarnation which I don't believe in AT ALL. So any of the superstitions she does have, have NEVER passed on to my generation of the family.

Re: Spinoff to superstitions...
I believe to a certain degree. Maybe it's just my OCD lol but I believe in things beyond superstitions.
One time when we were younger, my mother was having a really bad time, things were happening like she was having really, really bad nightmares, and she would get weird phone calls, and then she spoke to a hispanic woman she worked with and the woman told her that someone was trying to put a curse on her, and to keep a cup of water on the windows in the house. Things got better after that, so who knows if it's just coincidence or truth. I like to believe there are things out there that we don't know about 100%. *Shrugs*
