it depends on your personal taste. BUT keep in mind if you have people that might compare cards (yes some people do) and are the type to be offended by a lack of personalization, I would at least personalize those.

I personally find it rude to get/give completely unpersonal messages so I wrote more personal messages for everyone except the jerks in my family who knew they were jerks and were jerks all the way till the day of the weeding and after. They got 'Thanks for joining us on our special day.' Nothing else.

Everyone else got a personalized message, even if it was only a line and people did comment about that. one family loved that we sent their 10 year old daughter her own card with a specialized message too because she sent us a card she made.

We went out to dinner with one of Pete's cousins recently and his wife commented on the personal message I wrote in there so I think people derfinetly appreciate it. Ai personally save every TY card I get, but the oens that take the time to speiclaize it i appreciate even more. Shows thought to the person rather than just being prefunctory.

What I'd reccomend is get a basic greeting together that you can use for them all like 'Thanks so much for your generous gift and for joining in our special day.' Then add to it, even if its a sentence.

I used

Thank you for your generosity and sharing in our special day.

Then I added something like

We were so grateful that you were able to join us on our wedding day, we know you had to make quite a TRIP!

or

One of our favorite memories is dancing the tarantella with you, you are a pro!

or

We would have never made it to the altar without your love and support!

etc

Personally I think that you should take the time to write just a bit more in each card. People took the time to travel out to your wedding (whether they're local or not), and also to give you a gift, so it seems only right that you take an extra few minutes overall to add a little something more to each card - even if you just have a few different standard sentences to include.

I agree with others...try to personalize alittle bit...or add a few more sentences.

Say like 'We really had an amazing day and hope you enjoyed it as well'....something along those lines.

PS - my DH wrote his out to all his guests! YAY!

honestly since I wrote out all the TY's by myself, I know for DH's side I wrote more generic TY's- except for close family & BP members. I wrote a lot more w/ personalization for my side. It's hard writing out so many cards, so don't make yourself crazy- do it for as many guests as you can.

I agree with the others. Try to write a little note or something.

I hand wrote each and every one of my TYs, each one was personalized....its your choice.

i dont really scrutinize the TYs I have gotten but that is me

I'd also that could be tricky -- some folks probably didn't give a gift, and some might not have given 'generously'!!!

Go for the lowest common denominator - i.e.,

'Our sincere thanks for sharing in our special day.' or something like that...

After that you can personalize each one as you see fit?

honestly, i HATE those! they are so impersonal and screams, i took no time to do these and everyone got the same one!!! yes, it takes more time, but try to personalize them if you can. like for my relatives from Ireland that came, i really thanked them for coming all that way. for the elderly people, i was sure to mention their gift and how we were enjoying it (i.e. place setting). for monetary gifts, you can say thank you for the gnerous gift, it will help towards our house fund (or whatever).
