When I went to change my name the lady told me 3-5 business days I would have it in the mail. Now our mail goes to MIL's house and she loses things a lot (DH won't get a po box for one excuse or another) i.e.- our marriage cert., my license, my new credit cards, basically anything that states officailly I married her son. However this time nothing has shown up, we can't find it anywhere and unlike before where things mysterously surface this hasn't. What should I do?

Re: SS Cards
How many days has it been? My social security card came in a week and a half. If it doesn't turn up, you need to go back and request another one. So sorry. I know how annoying that is.
Just go get a PO Box and have it mailed there. Its $60 for the year. I got one & its worth every penny. We were moving (twice) and DH had mail going to his mother's house too. I wasn't into that. Who the hell needs a MIL snooping through your mail anyway. Just go get one, then go to SS & tell them you have a new mailing address.
ETA: ok I almost don't want to say this b/c I don't want to freak you out, but... is MIL trust worthy? I'm thinking now about your SS card & your credit cards & I am worried that she might be inclined to do some bad stuff under your name. I'm sure she wouldn't do that... but I just thought I'd mention it. Check your credit in a few months & make sure there are no new cards in your name going to her house that she's shopping with.

Re: SS Cards
Its been almost 2 weeks. I wasn't crazy about MIL going through my mail either, but she was doing so well with everything (We live around the corner and I feared the 'Everybody Loves Raymond' syndrome) The only problem with getting a box is having access to it. Hicksville is the closest with 24 hours and they have a waiting list miles long. I could go to Plainview or Old Bethpage but then that means my lunch break cause they're on the other side of town. Or waiting till the weekend to get my mail.

Re: SS Cards
Ok two weeks isn't that bad. Call Social Security. There is a number on the website, and see if they sent it out already. They should be able to look it up.
Can you have your mail sent directly to your house?
