I was very active on the boards when I was planning my wedding but now unfortunately I''m starting marital counseling this evening. My husband left last week due to the constant interference of his family (specifically his mother) as well as other issues (lack of support financially, emotionally, etc.). I don''t know how this will turn out, I seriously doubt we''ll make it through this since soo much damage has occurred. Please say a prayer for me as well as wish me luck because I''m going to need it. I''ve only been married for a year and a half and I hate seeing something die that we''ve invested soo much into but what is meant to be will be, I suppose. Hold on to your husbands with all you have ladies, and let no one and no thing tear you apart. I should have learned my lesson earlier but fear, hurt and pride are major obstacles to overcome. God bless you all....

I just want to say good luck - I think it is great that you are going to counseling!! Are you going alone? I have heard from many married couples that the first year can be very difficult. Good Luck and keep in touch with us and let us know how you are!

If you are going to counseling it's becasue you both agree that what you have is worth saving.
All the best and let us know how you are doing. And as always, feel free to come on the board if you need to get things off your chest.

You Are Great....
I know I don't know you, however none of us know each other. My point is that we all may be at times going through difficulties and need a shoulder to lean on. The other women on the board are correct, let us know if you need us! I know that just from your post I feel better, I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE!! Best wishes and good luck!

Thank you all for the strong words of encouragement. The first session of counseling was difficult. Although alot of ground wasn't completely covered, the doctor was very intuitive and he figured out the crux of our problems immediately. My husband wasn't thrilled with having a stranger tell us what was wrong with us (and be correct in his conclusion). I guess he couldn't deal with admitting/facing the truth. After the therapy we went to dinner and things got very bad. He told me after a while the marriage was doomed and that we should just part ways. When things calmed down and we started discussing practical issues, we started having a real heart to heart. The night progressed and we realized we should be together. It's not going to be an easy road back to trust and understanding, but to me it's well worth it to save the marriage. Thanks again for all the kind words.

Sound like you took a step in the right direction
Therapy is never easy, but it sounds like you are both willing to work on mending your relationship. All the best to you both.

Shamee, tell us.....
Not in grave detail, but maybe somehow let us know some of the things we can *possibly* avoid. Like I cannot imagine my MIL saying things that will drive us apart. But somehow I hear it happens. How are you so inseparably close to your spouse one day and then torn away the next?
