Stolen from 08- 1st House

What do you think the average couple is spending on their first house? Do you expect your first house to be your dream house or a starter?

Real Estate in Brooklyn is out of Control. A starter house here runs at $700.000 and up I don't see myself buying a house for many years and when I do it probably won't be in NY. I can't afford such a house but even if I could, I couldn't justify spending $700,000 + on a starter house!

Wow it's expensive up there. I am in Georiga. DH and I bought our starter home last year. It's 3000 sq ft with a pool and it was only 255,000. I had know idea real estate was that high New York. If we lived there there is no way we would be in a house now.!!!!
Oh my house pics are in my album if you want to see.

In Brooklyn your house would fetch over a million , it would not be considered a starter home, and it would not come with a pool!

Edited to add: I just saw your house pics and its gorgeous!

holy awesome! that house is GREAT! in forest hills, queens where i live, that house would be about a million---maybe $900,000....if you were lucky and def no pool! ahahha!!!
our 'starter house' cost us about $600,000 and we're in the middle of gutting it and starting over from scratch.... new york shows no love for those of us starting out...

prices of houses are actually coming down and there are so many houses on the market you can probably find a great deal....me and dh bought a house 2 yrs ago before we got married and it def is a huge responsibility but its so worth it.....besides renting these days cost so much so your better off making a mortgage payment instead

I know where you are coming from. These prices are horrible. DH & I plan to move to Charlotte NC by the spring. I can't wait.

we are looking a little further out east on LI (Hauppauge) where we can get low taxes , although it would be a bit of a hike to work... we are looking in the $500K range...

Everyone is moving out of NY. I would love to get out of here but I don't know where to go or what the job market is like in other states. I was thinking about Florida but I've only been there once and I'm not sure if I would like it.

Re: Stolen from 08- 1st House

We bought our 1st home 3 years ago this June. We knew we would never be able to afford a house in NY. Our house was only 190.000!!!!!!!!
That's with 3 bedrooms 2 baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, office, mudroom and garage! PLUS 1/2 acre in the backyard!!!!! It's a really charming cape. I would like to move to a bigger house once we have kids. Somewhere in the Poconos where I live now. The house next to mine is up for sale!! Anyone wanna be my neighbor?????
XOXOXO
