How many of you keep the bedroom doors open when you have guests? What is the rule of thumb, if any. I tend to keep them open b/c I never want anyone to think there is a mess behind the closed door.

I keep the doors open, however when we go to sleep we close the door.

we close our door but the guest room is downstairs so it really doesn't matter

We leave our door open b/c we have a cat and I don't want her trapped in our room if she needs to use the litter facilities
But the guest room is on the first floor and our bedroom is upstairs so it doesn't really matter.

if we were having a house guest(s) they are obviously a close friend or family member that we trust... doors are always open unless there is a big mess or we are doing work in the room

We keep the doors open until its time to go to sleep. Even then we leave it a little bit open since I cant sleep with the door wide open.

If we are having guests over, we usually keep the bedroom door open. I find that even when I close it, people somehow end up congregating in my room (usually my niece and SIL - they somehow ALWAYS end up in my room even when we'd rather not have anyone in there).
ETA: we always sleep with the door closed if anyone is staying over.
