so in you ty cards, you're supposed to thank the guests for their generous gift and then mention what it will be used for..
ok, so if everyone gave you cash, what do you say? obviously all diff. amts, but say average of $100 to $200 gifts... what do you say? like, oh we can't wait to put it towards our cc bills? ok, just kidding, but seriously, do you make something up? or since its been 6 months do you say we used it to buy xyz? or towards something? or we spent it on the hm?
help! do we havvvve to say what we used it for? i feel like if we say we used it for something specific some guests could be llike, oh they used it for THAT? ugh, help por favor

Re: stupid ty question
I don't think I have ever gotten a TY that said what my gift was used for. I think 'thank you for the generous gift' is sufficient.

Re: stupid ty question
hey yesi! you can just say thank you for the generous gift. no explanations required ALL our wedding gifts were monitary so noone got a 'thank you for the $250 check that I can buy a nice toaster with'

This thread is sooo funny. I just logged on to ask basically the same question. Just got my thank you cards back today and was about to start writing them.

Re: stupid ty question
I have put in something like 'We are saving for a new house so that will help us reach our goal.' blah blah blah.

I don't think you have to state what you are using the $$ for ... I believe I only got 1 thank you that mentioned what they were using the money for, and it was because they used it towards a house downpayment.
Otherwise, I think most thank you's I've received have said something along the lines of:
'Thank you so much for your very generous gift. It meant so much to have you there to celebrate our wedding with us ...'

This was exactly what I was going to use unless it was a close friend/family member that I would write a bit more in the card.
I have to start writing so when my pictures come in I can just mail them all out at once and be done with it!

I'm trying to convince DH to at least stamp and lick envelopes like he did for our wedding invitations... wish me luck on that!
When I had my shower and I had to send thank you's I had to do all 100 of them by MYSELF!

Re: stupid ty question
We actually did say wha our$$ was used for in some of our TYs or what i was intded for becaue I read in an etiquette book that you should so I tried but only with people close to us. We had a small wedding though so no one that came WASNT a friend or family member so we were comfortable extending casual informal invites with the ty like:
'Thank you so much for the generous gift. Our couch fund thanks you as well:) You will have to come and break i in with us one of these weekends come the summer. Take care and thanks again!'

Re: stupid ty question
i think the whole what you are using the gift for comes in handy if someone actually gave you a physical gift like a vase or wine glasses or something.. thats the only time we really mentioned about the gift in the ty notes..
Someone caught me on one thank you note.. the gift they gave came with two bowls and i must have wrote bowl w/o the s to make it plural and the person emailed me asking if i got the other bowl since two came with the gift!!

Re: stupid ty question
when it comes to money gifts, i never said what i was going to use the money for. its none of their business. i just said thank you for the sharing in our special day. Thank you also for your generous gift. your thoughtfulness was very much appreciated.
however, if they sent me a houseware gift of some sort, i made it a little more personal like, :' thank you for the beautiful crystal salt and pepper shakers! It will pair nicely with my fine china'
blah blah...
i dont think u need to tell them how you plan to use the money they gave them....
