Suggestions for anniversary trip!

So we originally wanted to do Italy but my dear dear husband thinks we're going to spend as much as the flight is alone

He really doesn't want to spend more than around $4k so does anyone have any suggestions for a fantastic place to stay? My AWESOME TA [travel TOM!] is outta his office right now

ETA: I can probably convince him to go up to $5k if need be

We actually loved Italy, but we were so tired after the trip.

Check out travelzoo.com 'top 100' there are many suggestions there. Right now there's a discounted trip to India there.

We definitely want to tour and not veg...

I do get the travelzoo emails.. didn't even think of that thanks!

Anyone else with suggestions to an AWESOME spot?
PS- we dont mind vegging and doing the beach thing but we definitely want to be able to tour also

Italy would be my #1 choice too, but I know a bunch of people who have done Alaskan cruises who RAVED about it, but I'm not sure what type of vacation you're looking to do.

Totally understand. I've never been on one either because I'm afraid I'll be seasick the whole time.

How about Costa Rica?? from all the HM reveiws on here sounds like a good place to go...

Or fly into San Fran and drive the coast down to LA.. Do a hot air balloon ride in Napa and move down to hang out with the celebs in LA...
Maybe some how factor in Yellowstone park??

Or you can even travel the Nile in Egypt - there was an 07er that did that.. Looked like fun...

if you do end up there.. the hot air balloon was fun (except the fact that you have to be up waaaaayyy early) but you'll never do a thing like that in NY..
