Suggestions on protecting the money envelopes

I'm concerned about monetary gifts not getting stolen at Debi and Fred's wedding. What did you do to make sure it didn't happen? Mary MOB TIA!!

Re: Suggestions on protecting the money envelopes

We had a card box which was placed on a small table right next to our table... and to make sure no one broke into it, I tied pink ribbons (our color) around the box really tight going around in both directions (if I can find a picture of it I'll post it)... it was a way of 'locking' the card box so no one could open it. People told me it looked cute, and nobody realized I did it to protect the cards.

i keep thinking someone could just walk off with the card box, when everyone is looking elsewhere. What to do then? Mary

We put them in the bridal suite, hidden away in a bag. We had no problems.

Yeah that's a good point. I thought about that too, but the way my hall was set up, our table was so far from the ballroom exit that the person would have had to walk through the whole room and it would have been really obvious. My only other suggestion is maybe collect the cards yourself and then keep the card box underneath the table so no one can see it? That's the only thing I can think of.

i was actually thinking of how I could bolt the card box to a table!! But, I don't think Debi would appreciate holes in the box!! Mary

That gives me a crazy idea... what about putting something REALLY heavy (like lead or bricks or something LOL) into the card box before putting it on the table so it would take 2 people to carry the box comfortably?! The person would try to lift it and be in for a surprise.

With all due respect, I think you're overthinking this and being a bit paranoid. I highly doubt someone will walk off with a card box, especially one that is in full view of an entire wedding full of people. I think it'll be fine. Seriously...

I didn't give it a thought, until the issue was raised on '08 Board, some time ago; Since then, I think about it occasionally. It became a topic of discussion because things were stolen at wedding receptions, this past year. Mary

Sounds like my purse!! My Mom, who's a Senior Citizen, is always concerned that my purse isn't stolen from my grocery cart; I think they'd get the shock of their lives, because it weighs a ton, and I'm not kidding!!!!!!! Thanks for your ideas. I'm open to hearing more if there are other suggestions. Mary MOB

We had the card box on a table right next to us but then my parents would empty it out every now and then and put all the cards in a small duffle bag that was under their table. My Uncle who doesn't dance watched the duffle bag all night!! We walked out with our duffle bag at the end of the night with all of our and no one knew that duffle bag existed!!

we had our card box at our sweet heart table.
my bridal attendant kept and eye on it.

if you're using a bag for monetary gifts, then i have seen that the MOB or FOB takes charge of the the entire night or it gets locked in the bridal suite.

here is a pic of what we did.

We didn't have a card box. In retrospect, we wish we had. Folks gave DH envelopes and we would transfer them every now and then to the suite. Even if we had a box, I suspect that's what we would have done.

MOst people keep the card box right next to the bride and groom. This way it is always in a place that people can see. Or you can assign someone to keep it near them and keep watch~someone who you know is most likely going to sit the whole time

I would NOT put it in the bridal suite, those keys are easily copied, and you dont get the only one...ive heard HORROR stories about gifts that were cash being stolen.

NEVER put it in the bridal suite!!! Like Peggy said, to easy to get into. We kep the box right behind us. I also made it out of 11X14' frames, so it was fairly big and you cound't carry it out of there un-noticed!! Also I built so you had to break it open, not just lift the lid. GL, I am sure it will be fine.

i agree don't use the bridal suite. we used a card box set up behind our sweetheart table too. we had no problems at all.

Re: Suggestions on protecting the money envelopes

We had a mailbox card box that was on a stand which would be extremely hard to carry out. It was made by my Godmothers friend for her daughter in laws wedding a few years ago. I do hear you on the issue of people stealing the card box and I've heard a few things and saw something on the news right before we got married about a person acting as though they were a guest and stealing the gifts. My mother-in-law really didn't want us to use a card box but I insisted b/c I didn't like the idea of walking around to people with a bag asking for gifts. Therefore, every so often my mother-in-law would go to the box and take out all the envelopes and put them in a duffel bag or money bag she had with her.
I guess that's the best way to be sure nothing gets taken.

ETA: Jericho Terrace placed out cardbox right next to the bride and groom dais this way it was visible at all times and our parent tables weren't too far from us either. I definitely wouldn't put it in the bridal suite althought it is locked. YOu are not the holder of the key to the suite.

Peggie, I thought about it being unsafe in the Bridal Suite, because of what you said. Mary MOB

Patricia, I like the box on a stand idea; Would make it harder to carry off! Mary MOB
