I'm still really red from when we were in PR mid-December. What happened was I must have missed huge patches of my skin when I was blending my sunblock in, so I have literal charring outlining where my bathing suit top was on my shoulders, under my boobs, just above only one side of where the top of my bikini ended on my stomach, patches all over my legs, and the WORST is my inner ankle going up to mid calf. That's still really red, whereas the other ones are patchy brown. I didn't blister, but I peeled in all the other places except my calf and ankle, because I think the burn was too deep there.
This happened on the day that it was cloudy and raining on us on the beach too We're so brilliant we decided not to get an umbrella that day because it was cloudy, but we still got burned.
So here I am 3 weeks later and I'm still disfigured. I stopped using Aloe because it wasn't doing much to help. Everytime I take a shower with hot water the burns inflame again and turn bright red, and it takes hours for them to go back down.
Is there anything I can do to get rid of this, or do I just have to bide my time? I'm wondering if a full body exfoliation at the spa would help or harm me.
I'm really worried this is permanent damage, because the same thing happened to me at a Mets game in the early Summer, I was wearing a tank top and a little piece of skin on my upper shoulder didn't have enough sunscreen on it next to my tank top strap and I still have a brown blotch there from the burn

Re: Sunburn Remedies
i know it sounds weird, but milk works really well. just get a paper towel and blot some on your skin (dont know if it will help now, but it works wonders right after a sunburn)

Re: Sunburn Remedies
You can also try vinegar.
Dip a washcloth in some vinegar and apply it to the are that is burning.
I burnt really bad once in Florida since I am pale and it really helped.
I know how painful it is so I feel bad for you!

Re: Sunburn Remedies
The fact that it is still so sore after this much time is a little concerning. DO NOT EXFOLIATE. It will cause further irritation. I would take warm showers use mild soap and moisturizer. If it keeps up I would have it looked at by a doctor. There is prescription burn cream that will help. As for the aloe are you sure you are not allergic to it? I know a few people who can not use it due to allergies- This would cause inflammation and burning sensation as well.

Yeah I don't have anything really good to add except to 2nd the DONT exfoliate and also don't put lotion on after the shower. . if it is heated from the shower or from burning in general the lotion actually traps the heat under the skin and keeps it burning. a lot of people make their sunburns way worse this way - bc we think we should moisturize the burns but it's bad news. . sorry aloe wasn't working, that usually helps . .
hope it feels better soon!
oh and cold water def helps too - things that cool down the skin. ,

Re: Sunburn Remedies
I should have clarified that it's just the physical discoloration now, I no longer have the pain or itching....so I guess that means it IS healing, just taking a long time? Should I still see a dr. you think even if there's no more pain? The parts that have gone down have some scar tissue so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a second degree.

I would def. see a doc. Anytime you get a burn that severe (and for it to still be around now it must have been bad) I think it's a good idea to have a dermotologist take a look at it. It's better safe than sorry!
