Re: Sweet 16 gift ?
I haven't been to one in a few years but I would say $30 would be good-I know when I was 16 we all gave $20 and all got $20 but now everything's more expensive haha. I would say a nice black cocktail dress would be good to wear.

I would say to wear a cocktail dress. I think a 100 is probably good, unless you very close and than maybe give money and something sentinel (bracelet, photo fame).

Re: Sweet 16 gift ?
I probably wouldn't give much more than $50 actually. If we're particularly close, then maybe a small gift with it. But I couldn't imagine giving anywhere near as much as I give at a wedding, mainly because when I give to Newlyweds it's partly to help them jump start their new life together and also partly to help pay for the celebration. For a sweet 16, however, it's really just another birthday (not nearly as special as a wedding or graduation, etc). It's not as though a 16 yr old kid 'needs' more money like newlyweds do. And the gift I give won't go to helping pay for the party either, since it was her parents who paid and the 16 yr old will just buy clothes with it or whatever. Well, that's MY thought process at least. lol. I remember when I was 16, it was normal to just give $20-40. Maybe I'm just cheapo though. That happens when you're outta work

Re: Sweet 16 gift ?
I would say giving $50 is plenty or give a nice piece of jewelry (earrings, bracelet, charm), which would cost around the same.
A black cocktail dress sounds perfect.

Re: Sweet 16 gift ?
The typical gift would be jewelry or gift card. I was thinking maybe a mini shuffle, everyone listens to music, they came out with a new version that is tiny. About the size of foot toe. Very convenient and compact. They come in all different colors. That would be a really cool gift for sweet 16. And a simple cocktail dress would be appropriate, don't have to go all out. As long as it's casual but not too dressy, it's fine. I wore a chocolate cocktail dress to one of my close friend's younger sister who just turned 16 and it was perfect. I didn't feel undressed or too dressy. Have fun!

Re: Sweet 16 gift ?
I went to a sweet 16 last yr. We gave what we could afford. $20 was all we had, so I put it in a nice little card. It was my DH cousin. I was worried that the small amount would be offensive, but no one seemed to mind. Gift cards are big theses days. I know the girls love getting them.
