TABLE IS REFINISHED w/PIX!!!

Ok girls - some have you asked me via FM about it. Here it is. If you don't remember the back story I purchased it off of criag's list and I had plans to refinish the top with antique distress technique.

Well I am finally done - and I bought chairs to match the set at home goods.

Don't mind the room I know you can see it in the background that is NOT DONE YET I am a little a head of my self ..or should say ahead of my HUSBAND

Next... The floor Than paint and those plates can soo go up

The orginal table

After I stripped it

Before the polyurathane

Now the result

The chairs

How did you get it to the white distressed color? Before you poly'd it?

Looks great Jenn!! I love the distressed look. What paint did you use?

I stripped an old table that someone was throwing away. It's a pedestal table and was stained wood. i painted the pedestal black and refinished the top it looks brand new and I always get compliments on it. i told my cousin I would redo a table for her that she wants to put in her sunroom but the white wash look like you have may go better. Please let me know what you used. Also did you sand with a electric sander I did mine with hand held sand paper and at the end I had arms like Popeye.

You have to paint it. I chose a offwhite w/semi gloss someone returned a custom color at home depot (got to love that find) $4.79 for the gallon.
Lightly sand each coat and start again each time using mineral spirits
- 3 x to be exact.

Than I used 1 coat of a clear tea stain by Ralph Lauren for the distressed older look.

Next up is sanding it again to pull off some paint in the cracks and marks that got filled in by the offwhite paint.
I used a beer can opener to create more detail of distress.

Wipe down w/towel and Mineral spirits. change to a #0 sandpaper for pits and use a water based polyurethane 3 x.
FYI- Oil base poly will yellow the off white.

All in all not as easy as it appears. After you keep doing it you get the hang of it.

Over all project $15 and my labor

awhh I am soo happy you tackled ther pedestal table It is soo worth the reward esp after complements
I did NOT use a electric sander. It would have taken the pits and distress away. If your looking for that rustic feel I don't recommend an electric sander. I hear ya about your arms I got fortunate w/this project on sanding not alot of coats of urathane.

That sounds time-consuming!!! I hope to do somthing similar with craigslist finds - but only on like a random night table for a guest bedroom!!

Thank you for posting the instructions!!
