does anyone know the website/phone # to get yourself on the do not call list? I keep getting these annoying telemarketer phone calls and I just can't stand it anymore! Sorry if anyone ever was a telemarketer (or is)! But they can be really annoying!
going mad right now! Kelly

Re: telemarketer hell!
Not that easy to get off everyone's list. If when they call you request to be taken off their list they will do that and you should never get a call again.
I had the weirdest telemarketer call. It went like this:
Ring, Ring Me: Hello Telemarketer: This is Ms. X from X company. Is DH home? Me: No. Would you like to leave a message? Telemarketer: No message but if he has any questions my number is 800-XXX-XXXX Me: You called us - we dont have any questions. Telemarketer: Ok but if he does he can call me at 800-XXX-XXXX Me: You called us!! What questions could we possibly have for you? Telemarketer: Yes, but if you DO have questions you can call me at ... Me: We have no questions. Telemarketer: Please take down this number: 800.. Me: (hang up phone)

Re: telemarketer hell!
Here is one my DH and I received
Telemarketer: May I speak to Jane Doe (DH sister)
DH: Jane(with correct pronounciation) does not live here
Telemarketer: Why do you know how to pronounce her name, and I don't???????????? (I'm sitting there like WTH)
DH: Because she is my sister
Telemarketer: Are you sure she doesn't live there?
DH: NO, and you can remove this number from your system.
Telemarketer: I can't do that.
If you guys figure out a way, please let me know.
DH: Let me speak to your supervisor
Telemarketer then hangs up.

Re: telemarketer hell!
Kelly- I registered a while ago, and I have found a drastic difference. We got a million calls a week, now we get maybe 3 a month, and they are usually with our own companies (cable, credit cards, etc.), whom are not covered under the registry (they have a right to call you). Whenever I have gotten a call from a telemarketer we are not associated with, I tell them right away that we are on the Do Not Call Registry, and I never hear from them again! I think it's great!

In the meantime ladies, you can save yourselves some aggrevation by just hanging up before the telemarketer gets on the phone. Most systems have computer dialers, which means there is a slight connection delay once you answer the phone. Anytime I hear that pause after I've said hello, I know it's a solicitor and I just hang up

Re: telemarketer hell!
OH boy did this thread strike a nerve!! The people who had our phone # before us were not the most upstanding citizens, and we get unwanted calls for them all the time! It's mostly bill collectors and telemarketers, but we've had both Nassau and Suffolk County PD call, and once a call that went like this...
Caller: Joe? (not his real name, obviously!) Me: Sorry, you have the wrong number. Caller: Sorry! (Hang up)
2 minutes later
Caller: Joe? Me: Sorry, wrong number. Caller: I just double checked and it's not. Get Joe. Me: There is no Joe here. Caller. Are you sure? Me: Of course I'm sure. (should have hung up but didn't) Caller: Could you check? Me: I'm sure there is no Joe. (humoring the wacko) JOE!? See? No Joe. Caller: Well you tell that F@#$%ing B@#$ard that when he gets home... (I hung up!!)
I was home alone, and couldn't decide if I wanted to laugh or be a little nervous!

Re: telemarketer hell!
I do the same thing as Claud, with that pause I hang right up! I am on the Do Not Call list and I rarely get telemarketers...plus we have caller ID so that helps.
Stef...that is so weird! Some people are morons.

Re: telemarketer hell!
we got that telezapper thing to get rid of telemarketer calls.
I used to do what Claud and stacdz do, hang up during the pause, but one day I realized my grandmothers number comes up unknown and she doesn't speak right away when we answer. who knows how many times i hung up on her by mistake.

Re: telemarketer hell!
I always hang up on them but my DH ALWAYS has to liten before he says not intrested... The weirest thing was some bank called my DH , SIL (who lives in the city ) and BIL (who also does not live with parents) saying something about Money owed.. it was really weird... My mother always says to the person who calls at night ..can I have your number so I can call you back... I also get a ton of message for people who don't live in my house...But latly I have been calling people back to let them know they dialed the wrong number..exsecially if a doctor or a child is involved...

Re: telemarketer hell!
I got my dad the TeleZapper for his b-day. It automatically gives the computer telemarketers a 'disconnected' phone number signal. You can get it at Office Max, Staples etc.. for about $40.

Re: telemarketer hell!
This is what my husband does to telemarketers when he feels in a humorous mood:
Telemarketer: 'Hello may I please speak to ---?' DH: 'Yes speaking.' TM: 'This is so & so, we are offering this 30 day trial offer, bla, bla, bla, are you interested?' DH: 'hmm tell me more please......' TM: 'Oh, great, well, this offer provides bla, bla, bla.....' DH: 'Can you hold a minute? ' TM: 'Yes.'
Then my DH doesnt hang up, just puts the phone down and never comes back!! It's hysterical because you hear after a while the TM saying 'Hello, sir, sir??!!?' -- then a dial tone!
DH does this when he is in a joking mood- it is funny but ya gotta feel for those poor telemarketers!

Re: telemarketer hell!
I hate this too. I was off from work yesterday and got so many calls I stopped answering the phone. I got this really horrible one yesterday asking me if I was pro-choice or pro-life (before even clearly identifying themselves). It was some anti-abortion campaign or something. I just said I do not want to discuss this topic and hung up.

something I have found that works...'You have reached a business and are not permitted to contact businesses. Please correct your records.' It works wonders!

Re: telemarketer hell!
I hang up on them too. I have caller ID and the only #s that come up 'unknown' are my office and telemarketers. If it the evening or weekend, I just pick-up and hang-up on any 'unknown' callers. They never try back after that.
