Im pretty sure Ive asked this before but I cant find the post. I switched vets on my cat because the last one pissed me off. My cat is very very bad at the vets office. She hisses and spits. And he asked me if she was abused and if I was scared of my own cat. I am not scared of my own cat EVER except when she is at the vets office. At home she is fine. Anyway, Im bringing her to a new vet on Thurs and I warned them beforehand and told them to let me know if they have a problem with temperamental cats, cause if so I wont be bringing her there. They said its fine. But I would like to try and calm her down somehow. Do any of you cat ladies recommend anything?? Im so nervous.

That's because cats are the devil's animal. They are evil and your little kitty probably hates the doctor.

My cats are great in the house, and psychopaths at the vets office. I dont think there's anything you can do. Just keep them in their carriers as long as possible... I'm sure vets are used to it. Mine never seem shocked that Mima is a nutjob. If she has to have shots or what not, they just wrap her in a towel so she can't claw them.

The last vet used to have his assistants put those big arm covers on. I guess they will just do the same here. I hope theyre nicer about the whole thing.

oo I don't have any advice.. my little baby is the most sweetest thing on earth - home and at the vets office.. he curls up into a ball when he's at the vets.. it makes me so sad to watch him act all defenseless.. at times he does catch at attitude with me but its just lovee..

Yeah, I don't know about cats and I am sure that just like with any animal going to a place they don't frequent regularly can be a bit scary. Since most of the time , just like children, they can associate this one place with needles, or scary things like that lol
All I do have to say is, be happy you have a carrier. Our puppy goes NUTS and he tries to jump on people, he spins in circles to get away from us lol I wish he had a carrier haha

Re: Temperamental Cat-Advice
Mine would start howling like a dog whenever we walked in the door of the vet. After a while he would stop the howling but then poop in the carrier. I'd be sitting there, trying to pretend I don't smell poop coming from my carrier. Inside the exam room, I'd have to take the carrier apart to get him out of it - I swear it was like he velcroed himself to the back edge. Then he pretty much calmed down and and would sit on the table like nothing happened.
As long as the vet knows that your cat is temperamental, they should be able to handle it.

Re: Temperamental Cat-Advice
Hi Lea! The poor baby is scared which makes it worse. They should be used to dealing with cats with different temperments. My last two cats were sweethearts...my kitten now can be a little fresh but usually is really nervous at the vet. I've let them know and he's never a problem. We know the vet too and everyone there is so nice. Not sure where you are, but let me know if you want his information. One thing he did tell us is that catnip usually mellows them out (like weed...ha), which surprised me because I always thought otherwise. I never gave any of my cats toys with catnip. Your other vet sounded like a jerk, because they should be able to handle him.

I have the same problem as you. Sammy is an absolute mush at home but at the vet he has to be put in one of those rabid animal bags. It got so bad that now he gets put on tranqs when he goes. He's easier to handle and it wears off pretty fast. Poor baby

Re: Temperamental Cat-Advice
i cant believe that they asked you if you were scared of your own cat lol what would they have said if you were like 'yeah im terrified' lolol
i was going to suggest something along the lines of anxiety medication..like kitty xanax.... my friend gives that to her cats when she used to move a lot (her hubby was in the army)
they used to work like a charm and wear off quickly!
