Text Messages

Little bit of a vent- I dont mind text messages as a hello how are you doing thing, but I have a close friend that send everything via text message and last night took the cake.

I get a text from her- and I havent seen or spoken to her since December, 'my dad may have a brain tumor, he's going in tomorrow for tests'

Who text messages someone that W*T*F! Some things should just not be sent by text message!

Wow something like that should be said on the phone.

i agree- that is weird.

Just looking at it from another angle though - she might be so upset and might not be ready to 'talk' about it yet.

texting is easier than hearing the tone in people's voices and having to answer questions. . . maybe she wasn't ready to talk but really wanted you to know?

One of my oldest and dearest friends (since we were 3, and a bridesmaid in the wedding) ended our friendship via text.

yeah. that was great.

I HATE text messages, ill do it here and there to say quick things but even when i do it i hate it. Or sometimes you just text somebody to tell them one thing and it goes on and on. I do think ppl have gotten way out of hand with texts.

That is horrible

I didnt think of that- I guess because if it were me, I would just call her and my other friends and ball my eyes out- but I have no shame and will cry in front of anyone. she's a really proud person

ITA!!!! I used to text a lot, but honestly, Id rather call someone and talk.. I can understand for a quick question or hello, but things like that are outta control. I had a friend who CALLED me and asked me to TEXT her my new address... I was like what?? Ill just give it to you now.. or email you...

yea I agree- when it goes back & forth more than once, I call- who the heck wants to type all that, plus its so much more personal to have a real old fashioned phone conversation

I might be totally off and she was just being ridiculous, but my friend went through the same thing and had sent us text message 'updates' a few times when it was bad news. Who knows? But i'm sorry your friend is going through that!

Re: Text Messages

some people just use text messaging as a way to have conversations.

I personally hate texting. I think its a pain in the a.s.s I'd rather pick up the phone and have my conversation instead of spending a 1/2 hour texting back and forth

I agree with the whole 'she may not be ready to talk face to face'. That's a good point.

I personally hate talking on the phone, and I think it's so awkward as it is, if I were to have to call someone and tell them bad news, I would probably be a wreck. I personally would much rather text or email :-X It's terrible.

I hate text messaging. I think it's actually the most horrible way of communicating..JMHO. I only text if I really can't call but I don't have a text plan and even when I get a text I call the person back.

I agree.
when my dad died, I actually texted all my friends since they already knew he was sick.
I didn't feel like having a conversation with people and answering a million questions about it.
