Thank god for writing off medical expenses!!!

My husband really is a freaking moron at times.

I asked him to get print outs of all his dental work from last year that he had to pay out of pocket (insurance didn't cover). He said 'oh they never returned my calls' b/s today i got all the numbers called all the dentist and got them faxed to me within 5 minutes. He spent WAY over the 7.5% per your fixed income that you can write off. I mean if you could get back thousands of dollars or even a thousand of what you had spent last year wouldn't you move your butt to get it?

When he walks in that door tonight I am going to hit him I swear! Going old school Italian/Irish woman on his butt.

I thought it had to be 10% of your combined income? or at least individual? My DH doesn't move fast on those things either, I feel your pain.

I found it a few areas and on the paper work our accountant sent us it says 7.5% of your adjusted gross.

Tax Law

This includes dental and many other things I wished I knew years ago to write all my stuff off when I had no insurance!!! To go back and find receipts and refile would be impossible at this time. Dh has spent MANY of thousands of dollars last year on his teeth and that is even with insurance. So I am praying he gets some of it back this way we are completely 100% debt free (outside of one car loan which we may pay off early unless we buy a house this year)

That is good that he has you to follow up on this. I have an accountant who has been doing my taxes for years and I thought she had said 10%. Dental can get ridiculous. I had reconstructive jaw surgery, plates removed, 7 teeth removed, frontectomy and braces in the past 10 yrs. My son needs a full set of braces-$5000 Ex's cvg has to be verified but if it is like mine, it will pay at 50%, leaving $2500. I have dental through my union so I don't pay for it, they will pay 50% up to $2500/yr incl all other dental and TMJ. So with 2 cvgs it will still be $1300 or so out of pocket!! My DH checked with his union and it looks like he may be able to add my children for free This should help pay another $600 or so of the balance. WIth 3 cvgs we can't even pay for it in full. Funny part is Ex is very irrate that DH wants to put our kids on his policy What an a s s , I said you pay the balance then.....It really adds us fast!
