Thank you card question

Thank you card question

I want to send my thank you's this month. We had about 7 people not give us a card, gift, anything. I'm going to send them a card thanking them for coming, but obviously I can't thank them for a gift - they didn't give one.

I suspect some of these people will then send a gift when they realize other members of their family got thank yous that thanked them for their generous gifts .. did this happen to any of you? Did you send another thank you then? And was it a regular thank you with no pic? Or did you maybe send the no-gifters regular thank yous and save the photo thank you's for when they sent a gift??

Most of the people who did not send thank yous are close family and friends - which is a big shocker but whatever, what can you do - but this is why I suspect that once they get a thank you, they'll send something.

Some of the people that did not give us gifts were very close to us! Some were part of the BP! We sent them ty's anyway, the same ones that we sent to everyone else. We just omitted the line 'thank you for your generous gift'. It did spark one person to send us a gift

I didn't find that people sent a gift after they got the thank yous. My cousins from California called to let me know that they got the thank you and that they owed me a gift but I was honestly just happy that they were able to make the trip-I haven't seen them since 2004. I figure there must have been a reason that people didn't give a gift. I thanked them for being there to share our special day. I did the picture thank yous for everyone that came to the wedding even if they didn't give a gift. I also sent them to people who sent a gift that didn't come to the wedding because I ordered some extra.

Oh maybe I am mean but I didnt send the no gifters cards. The favors was their thank you for coming to the wedding I have a ton of TY cards left so if the consensous is that no gifters get cards as well I will send out some more.

I feel that they should get a card for coming .. and I think I will have enough to send them a picture one -- and if they wind up sending a gift after getting the thank you, I will send them a store-bought one I think. Since our no-gifters were Dh's cousins and aunt/uncle, and two of his best friends (who said they were sending but haven't) - they are people we care about deeply so a card is due. I was very happy they were there. Now, if my no gifters were distant cousins or people we 'had' to invite due to family obligations (friends of parents we didn't know, etc) -- they would definitely get a store-bought card, and maybe not even that. SO, I think it's up to the situation and who they ARE to you.

You are so right Jen. I just felt weird sending them out since the pre-printed cards say thank you for your gift, but I included personalized second cards so I can use those to thank them for coming. Well, time for me to start writing out some more cards lol.

I think everyone who came to the wedding should get a thank you card, regardless of whether or not they gave a gift. They were still there to support you and celebrate with you on your wedding day so I think it deserves a 'thanks for coming'. We had 2 couples attend that did not give a gift and we sent them TY's, we just said 'it meant a lot to us that you were there to share in our special day'.

we had one couple who didn't give us even a card, or we dont expect to ever get anything from them. I wanted to send a thank you for coming, but they are from DHs family and he said not to because his parents have done a lot for them and DH was upset we didn't even get a card.

If you end a thank you now for them coming and yyou get a gift later on, just send another thank you then.

OHHHH Preprinted is different! Mine will be blank so that I can write what I want, and now I know why! Yeah, just send some 'thanks for coming, we hope you had a good time' cards -- I hoping that these will remind people, crap, I need to send them that gift! Because I don't think ANY of my guests intended on not ever giving a gift ... like I said, they are close family and friends - so I am thinking, and hoping, that sending the thank you will get us at least 3 gifts. Not counting on it, but just hoping.

DH's brother - our best man - has yet to send a gift. I know he doesn't have a ton of money, but he was the best man!!!! And the BROTHER of the GROOM. I would have thought my ILs would have nudged him aboutn this by now - and maybe they are - but my guess is that he will send something when he gets a thank you ....

I want to make it clear that I am not necessarily looking badly on these people - and if I don't get a gift from them ever, whatever, I'm not going to ever hold it against them - but really, what I am is utterly confused. Not hurt that they came and didn't give us a gift - I just can't fathom how you can come to a wedding and not bring a card even. What were these people taught???? So weird ....

I would send the card like you said and just omit the part thanksing them for a gift. This is what I did. Hopefully they will realize that they didnt give one.

Re: Thank you card question

I sent picture TYs to everyone who came regardless of whether they gave us a gift or not (we had only one friend and her DH who were no-gifters) and also to people that sent us a gift and who could not attend. I was a little reluctant to send this friend a TY to be honest...I know what you are saying and I personally think it's just hurtful and rude...but in the end the 'good' side of me won out lol... I just wrote 'Thank you so much for being a part of our special day. It was wonderful to see you' and did not mention a gift.
I sent mine out over a month ago and no, have not rec'd a gift from them.

Re: Thank you card question

We had a few non-gift, non-card givers as well. So we'll be sending them an official thank you card for coming. IF on the highly off chance they send a gift we'll send them an additional, plain thank you card for their gift.

me too. I am not sending them to the dozen or so people who didnt even send a card. Sorry, but it's just in poor taste. You dont even need to include a $$ gift, but cant send a card? Come on. I honestly was very disappointed in several people.
