I don't know about the rule, but I would say a year is the absolute furthest it could be pushed to.

Cindy, I don't know what the rule of etiquette is, but Donna has been WAITINGGGGGGG, and was told their album would take 10/12 weeks; The album pages were posted already, but now they have been told 12/14 weeks!!! This is noteworthy, since Donna has been waiting for the release of their picture disk, to which they own the copyright, to choose a Thank You card picture!!!! Dear Wedding Guests,' Sorry your thank you is running late' !!!!!! Mary MOB

I dont think so at all - we just picked our picture for our TY - and was told it would be 2 weeks until ty's come in - so it will be a little over 3 months once we start getting them out. HTH

I hope that’s not too late – it’s killing me bc we’re STILL waiting to get our TY pics back! I just want to write them and know they’re done!

People say 1 year but honestly I think a year is way to long.....I don't think it should go past 6 months unless there is some crazy circumstance.

ITA....I went to a wedding in January and still have not received a TY card. I think it's a little too long.

It should be 6 months, but now because of photo cards a year has become more acceptable.

IMO a year is too long. 3 - 6 months is acceptable.
I did photo ty cards and had them designed, printed and sent within 30 days. Prior to the wedding we discussed w/ our photog the potential shots we wanted to use. They were emailed to us within 10 days of the wedding.

Unfortunately not all photographers will do that. Our photographer took about 2 months to get our proof to us for our thank you card...so we coulndt possibly have gotten them out in 30 days. We will be sending ours out with in the next week or so. For me, i couldn't care less how long it takes the bride and groom but was told within the year is the general rule of thumb these days.

Re: Thank You Card Rule
I just sent them out like a crazy person this week, because I thought the etiquette was no later than 3 months, but I am glad to hear it's a year! I worked my butt off for nothing.

Etiquette is one year.
Many people get them out sooner now because of digital photography but a year is still acceptable.
It took me about 9 months to get them out.

Re: Thank You Card Rule
According to Martha Stewart, the rule is 3 months after the wedding. I think the 1 year thing comes from the fact that guests have up to 1 year after the wedding to send a gift.
At the end of the day, just do the best you can. It's always better to send a thank you (even if it's technically late) than not to send one at all.

Re: Thank You Card Rule
Here is what Emily Post says about time frame
When should notes be written? Contrary to popular myth, the happy couple does not have a year’s grace period. All thank you notes should be written within three months of the receipt of the gift. Ideally, a response should be written on the day you receive a wedding gift. If that’s not possible, set a daily goal. It’s a lot easier to write three or four notes a day than to have to write a hundred notes in a month after the wedding!
