A couple where one of the members came and one did not (or a family where a few came but a few did not). Usually I thank them for coming and the gift, but it gets all convoluted when I want to thank the wife for coming and say I wish the husband could have been there - blah blah blah. Anyone have good wording for this?

Re: Thank you Issue - How to word a thank you to
I think in those cases I would just thank them for the gift and maybe mention how excited you are to use it or in the case of a $$ gift tell them what it is being put towards. I have a couple of ppl that didn't come to the weddng but sent a gift and that is what I am doing.

I don't know if it's good but I would just say,
'...so nice to have Matthew at the wedding it was too bad Jake couldn't be there as well. Hopefully we will all get together soon!' (and make a Suz sandwich)

I wrote something like, It was great to have Jane share in our special day, and we really missed Jack.

I wrote something like this:
Thank you for sharing in our special day! We were pleasantly surprised by your thoughtful and generous gift. Jane, it was lovely having you there with us and we hope you had a wonderful time. John, I'm sorry that you weren't able to join us but we really appreciate all of your well wishes. We hope to see the both of you again sometime soon.
