Thank you note question

Thank you note question

Hi Girls,

I am almost done with the thank you notes. (Phew! There were 130). Only trouble is, I saved the hardest one for last.

My dad's cousin and her husband both came to the wedding and gave us a card and generous gift. Trouble is, he passed away unexpectedly about ten days after the wedding.

I've tried several times to write a note to my cousin, but all the traditional thank you note wording just feels kind of superficial and fake. The wedding was the last family event they attended together and the last time they danced together. I think that getting the note is going to be painful for her.

I would appreciate your advice!

TIA.

I's look & see if you have a photo of the 2 of them dancing.... if so, maybe your photog can hook you up.

Then, just write the truth...exactly what you wrote:
You had a hard time writing this thank you....
They gave a very gen. gift
You don't know how to thank them.
Them dancing at your wedding together was very special/important to you.
You're sorry & know that she must be going through such a hard time.

I never got to send a thank you to my fam. member. I still have it.

Wow, that has got to be so difficult. Either way, I would still make sure to thank her husband - if you totally don't mention him, it might hurt more, like he was already forgotten.

Maybe something like,

'Dearest Jane,

We cannot thank you enough for the very generous gift that you and John gave us for the wedding. We feel so blessed to have had you both at our wedding.'

And then something else?

No pics of them together. I scoured the proofs and all the pics from friends and family. There are pics of each of them, but not together.

I think that's the best thing to do. I'm sure she'll understand and appreciate that honesty.
