Thank you Problem

When we went through our gifts, we received one blank card with nothing in it. We narrowed it down and there was only one couple that it could have been. It was a couple who's father works with my husband. So my husband cracked a joke to the father and mentioned that they forgot to sign the card (or put anything in it). The father asked his daughter about it and she said that her husband put cash in the card.

We never got it! So do I write 'thank you for your generous gift' when we never got it and they now know that we never got it??

no way i would write something along the lines of thank you for attending the wedding , we hope you had as much fun as we did.
