basic is to:*specifically thank the person for the gift...
*tell them how you will use it (where you will hang the painting...or what you are buying with the money (i.e. saving for a down payment...buying the rest of your china...)...
*you may want to add it was great to see you at the wedding or sorry you couldn't make it ('we ate a piece of cake for you')...
*than end by thanking again...
