thank yous for guests who didn't give a card/gift?
Is the proper etiquette for us to send a thank you card to a guest at the wedding who did not even give us a card? My dad seems to think that the favor that we gave them was thank you enough and a card would be redundant and condescending to just say 'thank you for sharing our special day'....
what's your thought? Is there a rule for this?

I was wondering the same thing. I was shocked to see that some of our guests didn't even give us a card. I thought they would send it after the wedding, but its been almost 6 months and nothing. I think I am going to send a thank you that says thank you for sharing our special day with us.

We had a few guests that didn't give anything and we're giving them all a thank you for coming.

I think the polite thing to do is to send them a TY card...'thank you for sharing in our special day' is not rude or condescending, IMO

Send the thank you for attending... also if they traveled far you should mention that also!

Agreed. If you don't want to do the photo thank you, just send a generic thank you card.

I am pretty sure the proper thing to do is to send the thank you and just simply thank them for attending.

I didnt send them a card, because I didnt want the added expense of ordering more cards the same way they didnt want the added expense/effort of giving us a card. It may sound petty, but it makes sense to me.

I didn't send them anything. I think it is RUDE to attend someone's wedding and not even give a card, so they don't deserve any sort of thank you from me.

For the week of May 30, 2005
Q. I was recently married and did not receive gifts from three good friends (one a groomsman). Perhaps these people just did not give a gift or will be sending one in the future. However, I am concerned that perhaps they did give a gift but it was misplaced or stolen at the wedding. Is there a proper way for me to investigate whether or not a gift was given?
A. In a situation like this, and it is not unusual, the best thing you can do is write a letter to the so-far non-gift-giving guests. Thank them for being with you on your special day and express your pleasure in having them be there. This shows your excellent manners and enables them to write back or call and say, 'gee, you didn’t mention my gift… did you receive it?' If you don’t write, and they did give you a gift, they will think you are one of those ill-mannered couples who don’t write thank-you notes and think badly of you. You can explain what happened if they call or write in response to your note. If they didn’t give you a gift, they will nonetheless be impressed that you wrote!
