the wedding in Germany

the wedding in Germany

Hi girls - wanted to let you know how a wedding in Germany is...

Let me start out by saying the couple is not very traditional so many German customs may not be represented.

The church was steps away from they house so they walked to and from. The ceremony was in German (of which I know none) so I can't really comment there. The only thing that struck me as odd, was that they didn't do the kiss. Found out later that the bride thought that was strange too.

After the ceremony, the couple was greeted with a big heart that they must cut out and then walk through (see picture below). And the flower boy lays petals in front on them on the walk home (petals after the ceremony - not before).

The reception lasted forever! From 6pm to 5am! The band would play 2-3 songs and take a beer break. There was a lot of drinking! and STRANGE music. They played bad oldies from the 70's and 80's - all American songs. Their first dance was Stayin' Alive

The bride threw the bouquet and they have this veil ripping tradition. Kirsten didn't have a veil, but they held up a piece of tulle and the girls ripped it to schreds trying to get the biggest piece.

Tables had about 6 at a table. The centerpieces were done by a neighbor. Dinner was a buffet of Italian and German fare (not such a great selection). No wedding cake.

It was definitely interesting but not quite what I expected. It had a rather sad ending. The groom's mother died the next night. She had been very sick for awhile and was not at the wedding It was a blessing to end her suffering.

After the visits, we toured around Germany with Al's sister and her family. She has a 5 year old boy and a 2 year old girl (my ring bearer and flower girl). After 5 days with them - my baby clock has been pushed back YEARS

Then hubby and I went to Ireland - which was lovely. We drove through the countryside to the Western coast. Its such a beautiful country (and so romantic). We stayed in a fabulous B&B overlooking the Atlantic ocean & Cliffs of Moher. I highly recommend visiting Ireland!!

Some pictures below for your enjoyment!

Thanks for sharing. Your pictures are really gorgeous. I was a BM for one of my HS friends who married into a German family, and they did those same traditions here in the States. It made for a very interesting wedding!!
