they destroyed my dress..(now with PICTURES!)

Original post by LisaT

I posted a few weeks ago that my dress was ready. Well, I just saw it - I can't believe how much damage they did.

I don't think my MIL looked at the beading before they boxed it up. One side of the beaded bodice is shreading, and the edging of seed pearls is falling off all over. There was nothing wrong with the beading when I brought it in. AND its not even clean! I wasn't expecting perfection but the hemline is still a mess.

I think I'm going to repair what I can, wear it to the ball and then send it off to wedclean, and see if they can get some of the stains out.

I can't believe it. I cry every time I think about it. Honestly, I could still wear it without people noticing the beading damage, but that doesn't make me feel much better about it. These were friends of the family that 'cleaned' & perserved it. My MIL wants me to bring the dress is and talk to them, but I think I'm too emotional about it. I'll wind up crying or screaming, or both.

its not visible from a distance, but I'm going to remove the pearls that are falling off, and in the rows where they're almost all gone - I'll take off the ones remaining. If you don't know they're supposed to be there, its hard to tell the difference.

I hope someone is able to work something out for you.

GASP!!! Did you take it to a regular dry cleaner??? Maybe you can find a seamstress that can repair the beding in time. I did it myself for a gown once and it didn't look that bad. If I didn't have so much to do with school, I'd help you out. I know of a lady in Massapequa that's a seamstress and works out of her home. Let me know if you want the number and I'll get it from my Mom. Good luck!

May be your MIL can go and talk to them? It is true that you can still fix it, but they didn't do a good job and they should know it. Sorry that this is happening to you!good luck!

my MIL is a seamstress, so she will be able to help repair it if Jim Hjelm doesn't volunteer their services. Actually, she works at the cleaners where the dress was cleaned (this is why its a sticky situation). We thought we'd get special treatment by going there - boy were we wrong.

I think they were a little overzealous because they wanted to get it clean for me. But they did more damage that good.

It won't be repaired in time for the ball, but no one will notice except me. You have to be pretty close to see anything.

Re: they destroyed my dress..(now with PICTURES!)

Seriously- Once I saw the pics, I saw it's not too bad. I hardly noticed it. I think a repair job of the beading will really help. I know you still feel miserable about it! I would, too. You will still look GORGEOUS for the ball.
