my sister b-day is comming up and we planed on seeing a play in the city, so my cousin ( a bachlorett) got tickets for 8pm on a sat night ( mind you I have to take the LIRR out to the city) SO I sent an emial saying I hope we eat dinner before the show
A- becasue I dont like to eat at 10pm and
B-becasue I have to take the train if I miss the train, then I will have to get the next train who knows when it will come/.......so my couisn writes...
Gee - did someone turn into Cinderella after getting married?....are you planning on turning into a pumpkin if you're out too late?...LOL....I was assuming all along that we'd be going to the evening performance....I would imagine that we'd be eating before then....I guess....

sounds like you are being a little too sensitive about her comments..there has to be some more background...

yup, I do.

you've been married less than 1 month. I've been married 7 months and I hate the idea of being without my husband. sorry, but that comment was a little insensitive and IMO, stems from some kind of jealousy.

I have had similar experiences with people making comments that start with 'Oh now that you are married you don't BLAH BLAH BLAH anymore.' or 'You've changed.' Funny, the comments all seem to come from people who are miserable in their own lives. Jealous? Perhaps they are. But I think that is too easy to say. Maybe now I have a reason to go home and be happy there.

This is an interesting topic. I do not get this but my husband does One of his close friends has started to make comments about my husband not staying out late - which he never really did anyway. Since the wedding (and moving in together) he has made the effort to be home as early as possible so we can have dinner together a few times a week.

His friend asked if he would turn into a pumpkin if he did not make it home before midnight

This from a man who stayed out all night (although he called his live-in girlfriend) and he came home to the locks being changed on their apartment!!!

Re: they just dont understand

There is nothing wrong with a girls night out or a guys night out but other people need to realize that sometimes you just do not want to hang out.

Your situation sounds a bit different too since you would have to wait for who knows how long for the next train.

Re: they just dont understand

If she tried to make another comment...let her know about my experience at my own bachelorette party.....

We ended up leaving where we were at 1am. Not because we were done partying. We could have hung out another hour or 2 easily. But because we realized that it was either catch the 1:45am train out of Penn Station or wait until the next one at 6:45am!!!!

While I like to party and hang out as much as the next person, there was no way in hell I was going to stay out and try to catch a train at that time!!!

While we still both party it up (on our own and together) we still try to keep mindful of the time. Not because we're rushing home due to curfew, because sometimes you're just tired!!!

Well, I am married and I still BLAH BLAH BLAH. Sorry, I had to say that.

On the one hand.......Some people do change and do forget their old friends. I was on the other side of that a lot when I was single. I truly was not jealous b/c I did not want to get married yet. But I was very hurt. I was only asking for a small amount of effort to keep friendships alive. Some married people people disappeared completely.

On the other hand......Some people seem to see their friends get married and they are looking for something to pick on. That is not cool.

I so agree, Goldi.

Re: they just dont understand

The thing is, not everyone wants to be married. I know it's hard to believe when you love being married so much but not everyone shares the same views of what constitutes happiness. Assuming she is jealous is a pretty bold assumption based on such a silly comment.

I wouldn't have taken anything personal from this comment. IMO it seems pretty harmless. but I can understand why you were taken back by it. Maybe she wishes she could spend more time with you and is a little upset about that.
