Things to do in Bermuda...

Hi,

Congratulations to all you newlyweds... I am getting married on July 6 and am going on a 7 day cruise to bermuda. We will actually be on the island for 4 days and what i was wondering is if anyone hear has ever been there and if so can anyone give any ideas and what is the main attractions to see and how to get around the island.

When we went to Bermuda we used the public buses... not because we were too cheap to take cabs, but because that seemed to be the recommended way to get around!

Some people rent scooters, but I think that is VERY dangerous -- they drive on the opposite side of the road, which means your instincts in an emergency are off, plus the roads are really narrow and twisty...

I'm not sure about 'main attractions.' We went to some pretty beaches to snorkel, and on a kayaking trip from the cruise line.

From what I remember St. George's is more of a historical area and has a zoo. And Hamilton has lots of shops, restaurants and bars.

We got around the island by bus or cab with no problems. I was too chicken to do the scooter thing

I think the beautiful beaches are the main attraction there.

It's going to be wonderful, enjoy

We went to bermuda on Royal caribbean last year. Bermuda is a gorgeous island. We also did not rent mopeds - in fact it was discouraged by the ship's cruise directors. We used the bus/ferry system which is a great, efficient system that travels the whole island. You can buy a 3 day combo pass (good for unlimited number of rides) onboard the ship. This is the best option. Ferry rides across the harrington sound are very nice. Horseshoe bay beach is beautiful for sunbathing, Tobacco bay beach great for snorkeling. Check out the Rum Swizzle Inn and the Crystal Caves (natural undergroud caves). (the Inn is the home of the rum swizzle, their drink) In Hamilton we ate at a seafood restaurant called Barracuda which was $$ but worth it. Definitely check out Trimminghams - the Bloomingdales of Bermuda. great shopping in hamilton. discounted perfumes, name brand good, china. Have fun!

LizLen just said she swam with dolphins while in Bermuda. I've done it 2x now and highly recommend it if you have the time!

the beaches in Bermud are gorgeous. We also explored the caves in Hamilton which was fun. There is also a club on Front Street in Hamilton. I don't remember the name of it, but I am going back 5 years so not even sure if it is still there.

Re: Things to do in Bermuda...

I went a couple years ago and it is sooo pretty.

In St. George we we to a beach and did some snorkeling. It was a quiet town and I think there is some historical stuff we may have done as well.

In Hamilton, we went to two beaches Elbow Beach (very very pretty but just a beach - beautiful sand and water) and Horseshoe Bay (twice). We had the best time at Horsehoe Bay. There are these (not difficult) rocks you can climb and coves you can crawl through and just explore. Sounds strange but it is so much fun. We also went to some caves on a tour. There is also that one street with lots of shopping, bars and restaurants.

We also got around all day by buses - very simple and was also recommended to us.

One thing I have to say was I remember the people and even the children were super polite. When I got on the bus with some with the other couple we travelled with, all the male children automatically stood up and offered their seats to me and my friend. (we got on a bus that was full of 12-13 old children on a trip.) I was amazed - you don't see that from our school aged kids that often. We talked a little to them and they were so sweet.
