This is sooo F*CKED UP!!!

Someone got into my email account and sent everyone on my contact's list an email with a link to a video!

The email subject is 'Vote me Please'.

Not sure if this happened to anyone else but this is really messed up b/c I have A LOT of ppl on my hotmail contact list that I haven't written to in a while...and I hate to think that they might click on that link and be exposed to a virus!

Ugh...what idiotic are out there!!!!!!

I just sent everyone a follow up email telling them not to open the other email - hope they see my real email before the bullshiit email

This happened to me YEARS ago on AOL. It was a BAD BAD virus I had on my computer.

You might have a virus on your computer thats doing this (and in this case you need to get rid of it ASAP) bc thats how your email was hacked into.

I'm an I.T. admin & I was just going to say the same thing. It's more than likely that your computer is infected with a virus or spyware. Do you have an antivirus program on there that's up-to-date? If not, either update the one that you currently have or you can download an excellent free program called AVG from here AVG Free. I'd also recommend running a spyware check on there as well. If you're running Windows, you can download Windows Defender for free & then scan & fix your PC if it needs it. Good luck & hope that helps!

ETA: Here's a link to download Windows Defender

Its a new virus and its really really bad. It gets into your email, emails all ur contacts, and sends THEM the same virus. It attacks your hard-drive so be very careful. If I were you I'd backup everything on your computer right now and take it over to get it checked out. Tell everyone on your contact list to do the same because if they open that email, they mostlikely have the virus now.

thanks again babe.

I'm running AVG and it already found 5 viruses!!!!

Does the virus do anything else to my comp? Should I be looking out for anything else?

I was the recipient of one of those emails years ago.... my cousin-in-law had the virus....

yeah, definitely run several anti-spyware and anti-virus programs while your computer is off-line. also restart your computer and re-run them.

good luck!

Let me ask DH....he was the one who warned me about it earlier this month, so he would know.

Okay he said that this particular one kills the hard-drive, so it'll shut the whole comp down. If your computer is still working, than it didnt do the damage it set out to do, so as long as you run your anti-virus software you should be fine. But I still suggest backing everything up on either CDs or an external hard drive...just in case. I recently lost everything on my computer to a hard-drive virus and I lost my resume, alllll of our pictures of everything fromt he past 3 years (birthdays, our old apartment, vacations, graduations, etc.), and all of my papers from school that I worked my azz off for. So, I learned my lesson and I back everything up now.

Re: This is sooo F*CKED UP!!!

So sorry - we went out last night, so I just got this. Unfortunately, there are THOUSANDS of different viruses that display this same type of behavior, so without your telling us what exactly AVG told you they're named, it's hard to give you specific instructions on how to fix it...it could be the one that Jenn's thinking of or it could be one of a thousand different varieties. AVG will actually isolate the virus and allow you to move it to a 'Virus Vault' - that 'should' prevent it from re-infecting your PC, but unfortunately every virus is different and that's no guarantee. Here's what I'd do to start, though:

1) Disconnect your computer from the Internet

2) Open up AVG, navigate to the Vault (thru the menus up top), write down the names & locations of all the viruses in there >> FM them to me so I can FM you back some more specific instructions >> delete everything that's in there

3) Click on the WIndows Start button >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Disk Cleanup. Run the cleanup for your C: drive and delete all Temp and Temporary Internet files

4) Right-click on My Computer >> Select Properties >> Click on the System Restore Tab and click to turn off System Restore. NOTE: This will prevent you from restoring Windows to any previous settings, BUT this is good. Copies of the virus may be stuck in there and you'll need to delete it to prevent re-infection when you restart your computer. Once you're positive you're PC is really clean, you can return here to turn it back on.

5) Reboot the computer, keep it off the Internet & rescan the hard drive with AVG and Windows Defender.

Once I have the specific names of what you've got, I can give you more specific instructions on how to clean this mess off your PC (if the steps above didn't do it). Sorry that you have this headache, though
