This may sound stupid, but

What does a guy wear with his Tux to a black tie wedding? DH bought his tux, but wore a white vest/tie to our wedding. Now we are going to a black tie wedding, what does he wear with the tux? A black vest and tie? Just the black tie? Bow tie and cumberbund? His dad has a black vest and tie to give him, is that ok? Thanks!

well i'm sure people looked because the thread topic is so vague, but most people (like me!) probably have no clue!

Your DH could wear either a vest or a tie under his tux, either one is completely appropiate. We were at a black tie wedding not too long ago and DH wore his tux with a navy blue tie, just to match my dress, and no vest. Its completely up to you and what your DH is most comfortable in

Here we are..DH with no vest just tie:

thank you ladies! Sorry if I came off obnoxious in my second post! The wedding is this Sat. night and it just dawned on DH and me that even though he has the tux,he has to wear something with it! The only time he ever wore a tux before was to our wedding, and one he was just in, where he had to wear the rented one. So, his Dad actually bought a black vest and tie, and said DH can have it, I just wasn't sure if that was too much -- did people just wear the tie if they weren't anyone important...
Anyway, sorry if I was obnoxious, and the subject was meant to get attention. I feel better that I'm not the only one who doesn't know about these things!

I dont think it depends on whether the person whose wedding youre attending is more important means you should wear a vest...i think that vests tend to be more reserved usually for bridal party members in general. However, some guys love to wear vests under their tux to a wedding and it looks really dressy and nice! Its a matter of personal taste, my DH is not a vest fan and prefers to just wear ties, b/c thats what hes most comfortable in. You can not go wrong either way by wearing a vest and tie or just a tie with a tux to a formal event imo.

Thank you Milana! Wow -- I'm tired! I didn't mean that the people getting married weren't important, I meant that DH and I aren't that important -- we aren't in the bridal party or anything! Its my best friend's sister's wedding, and I didn't want DH to look like he was in the bridal party, that's why I was worried about the vest. You were so helpful, thank you!
Bed time!

My husband doesn't care for vests, he prefers cumberbund and tie, so that is what he would wear. He thinks its more classic. But I think it depends on the man whether he likes the vest or cumberbund.

I like how the vest and the tie look. vs cumberbund (sp?)

Thank you Ladies! Vest and Tie it is! If he's uncomfortable he'll take off the vest. DH is mortified that I posted this!

i asked Dh what he was gonna do for the black tie wedding we're attending in a few weeks. He said he'll probably wear a vest. I wish he were able to do just a black suit with shirt and tie, which im sure is fine but i guess hes ok with wearing the vest.

Is he wearing a tie with the vest or just the vest?
