Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

I was just looking at my spreadsheet and I am in awe how Phil and I paid for the entire wedding and then some. We paid for everything, from my dress to the hall to the photo/video to dance lessons etc, etc, etc ....

We have no debt from the wedding, everything is paid.

I am really proud of ourselves (in the process of paying for the wedding, we also own a home and paid a mortgage and all the other daily expenses).

If we could this we can do anything.

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

Definitely. We are in the same position as you and we were just wondering how the heck we were going to get all the furniture we want & do all the work we want to do in the house -- soon, now that the wedding is over. Then we realized, hey we somehow paid for a $35k++ wedding while paying this mortgage -- we can definitely do THIS!!

We are in the same situation...we paid for everything...nothing was a gift. Our spreadsheet blows my mind too! It is a great feeling!

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

i agree with you we also paid for my entire wedding ourselves and it felt so good to do it. we also bought a house the same year it blows my mind what you can do when you really start saving. my father tried to instill how important saving was my entire life but i never listened to him he would have been so proud. i have extra respect for you girls that are getting married in the more expensive months and paying for your own wedding. i know how hard it was to save for my dream winter wonderland wedding and cant imagine how difficult a june wedding would be . my dh still thanks god that i wanted a winter wedding lol. heres hugs for us all

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

We paid for the wedding ourselves too. Actually DH paid for alot of it with his money he had saved (we planned ours in less than a year). So overall we took a big hit on our savings because we didn't get nearly as much back in gifts as our wedding cost but we'll just replenish the savings as we go.
Luckily we already own a house and have most of the furniture we want/need.
I am in awe of those of you who has to save for the whole thing and did it. That is incredible discipline!

I dont even want to know how much the real total was but I know it was a lot. Scary how it all gets paid for.

I won't lie..it would have been nice not to have to pay for it ourselves..but Im grateful we were in a position to do it.

Stef, I agree with you! I am so happy that we were able to pay, but at times it was very hard not having ANY help. I often felt stressed and worried if we would pull it off. I was planning my wedding at the same time as several of my friends, and their weddings were paid for. It was hard to watch. However, I did the most research for my wedding to make sure I got the most for my money and it turned out to be a wonderful affair!

I agree it would nice to have not had to pay for it by ourselves but I am so proud that we paid for it ourselves and that we were able to buy a great house. Everyone that who paid for their weddings themselves should be incredibly proud of themselves!!

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

Hooray for all of us!! So happy we were able to do it ourselves. The only downside now is trying to motivate ourselves to start saving again for a house. It is tough to discipline ourselves again....DH wants to know when he can start buying himself some 'toys' ....I keep telling him once we have have a house to put them in!!!

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

We paid for it ourself. But now looking back a year and a half into the marriage, looking for a house. I really wish someone would have helped us a smidge because I really want to stop paying my landlord $$$$$$$ and have a nice house I could call my own.

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

It was a bit stressful on the Day of Wedding, because we had to make sure we had enough $$ for the final payments, plus the tips, plus our mortgage was due that day (the 1st of the month).

We literally had $0 the day of the wedding. Nothing left!!!

Re: Those of you who paid for your wedding yourselves, do you look back and wonder how you did it?

We paid for the wedding ourselves, and put a downpayment on a house ---b/c of the house we had to use our credit card for a few things for the wedding b/c we didn't want to loose on the house and had to use some of the wedding money for the downpayment! We might have a little debt right now, but to be married on Oct 1, Move into a home on Dec 1, plus have a house in the poconos and in mexico, we are doing good, peanut butter and jelly lunches, but it will be worth in (i hope) w/in time! It can be stressful but I am determined not to fail---we should all be proud of ourselves! And we go to closing the day before thanksgiving, and like you Peabody, will be at ground $0, but also thankful on thanksgiving (and everyday). I told DH last night that we problably won't even have money for pizza on Wednesday for our first meal, in our new home after the closing! That's okay though.
Thanks for this post Peabody!

Sandra, your first meal is on me!!! I will send pizza to your house. FM your address and the date you close. Any special toppings?

WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! You should be proud that you paid for your wedding and bought a house. That is tough!!!
