I currently have a 4 lb Pomeranian, Tinkerbell, who is my love. She is the greatest dog. I work from home so I am home alot and recently I have been hearing about rescue dogs and dogs that need homes and it hurts my heart. i have always thought about getting another dog but I am not sure? Is it easy to manage? I just feel that I could provide such a loving home....another thing is that Dh and I want to start a family someday...not right now but in the near future...is it tough with kids?? any advice is much appreciated!

Re: those with 2 dogs
We have 2 dogs...and honestly it isn't much more work than having one. Our second dog was a rescue and she is awesome...it did take some extra training and patience at first...since she was abandoned and had some issues with digging tru the garbage or trying to kill you if you went near her food dish...but now she is the most loving loyal dog.
It also took our first dog Buddy some time to adjust to his new little 'sister' who kind of beats up on him once in awhile. I'd say the hardest thing is when i walk the two of them...but even that i've gotten used to. Also consider double the food & vet bills now as well as monthly flea & heartworn medicines. But it is fun to watch them play tug of war or see them curled up on the couch together. Good luck & so nice to hear about people wanting to rescue a dog! here are mine..the little one is the rescue
We have 2 dogs. 14 months and 6 months. We totally think it is EASIER to manage 2!!!
they keep each other entertained so much more and when we take them to a park they keep each other entertained and they get more exercise and tire out quickly. WE got the second one because our first was so high maintenance and energy and CONSTANTLY needed attention. He is SOOOOoooo Much happier now that he has a brother!!
They are both rescues and are the loves of our lives...... They are sweet and soooo affectionate!!!
Everythign else is the same. They go out together eat at the same time etc!
ETA: WE are expecting in February and I don't see a problem with having a baby and taking care of them. Actually, I think it iwill be easier having two than just one because they can keep each other entertained very well!!!

We just went through the same thing. I had a chihuahua that I adore and felt the same way that you did about all the dogs that need homes. We decided to go for it and rescued another chihuahua. He was sick as anything when we got him home, but now he's healthy as a horse and fits right in with our other chihuahua. DH thinks he keeps Bella young! Good luck!!!

We have 2 dogs... and they love eachother.. they playfight all the time and roll around together and they are a boy and a girl, both fixed.. Like right now, they are both on the couch and one is eating a chew toy but if the other wanted it, there wouldn't be a problem..

Re: those with 2 dogs
DH and I have two pit bulls and I would have to say having 2 is almost easier. They keep each other entertained and can barely be apart. We rescued both 9 months apart and even though it took a little time to lay out rules, everyone has fallen into their role. I wouldn't change it for anything.
I can't answer personally about having kids, but a friend of mine just had triplets with her dogs and cats and it has worked out wonderfully. Her pit bull is the best with the babies!
