I think we are cutting back a bit.. but we paid cash for the wedding... with our savings and working 2 jobs.. so really we are looking forward to enjoying ourselves in the new year... (knock on wood)

We are...the plan originally was for us to buy each other one big monster present. After looking over our entire list for everyone else, we've decided to scale back on each other. As a matter of fact I think we're just going to go out to a nice dinner.

Why can't presents be free??????

You're giving him a baby. How is he going to top that?

Re: thrifty christmas

I cut way back on my spending. It's just not feasible. My bro made a joke about me being cheap but I said if he wanted me to get into CC debt for christmas, I already am, so he gets nothing lol. I bought everyone something they want and tried to get good deals. I don't think it matters what I spent as long as it's something I know they like. All I'm looking forward to is spending time with my family.

DH and I are not getting each other gifts this year.
I've finally gotten DH to understand financial responsibility, and if we want certain things, we have to save for it, not just charge it and worry about it later.

We just spent a lot on painting and carpeting for my co-op that we finally moved into, and we need to buy new furniture for the living room and den.

Once that's done, we'll replace the TV's with flat screens.

DH and I are not spending much at all this year. We are going to buy our parents, grandparents and sibiligs small gifts and thats it. After the wedding, I am being a cheap skate because I HATED handing out all that money!

We are going to go to the local humane society's and adopting a kitten together for our gift to each other. It's cheap enough and they cover the first set of shots and the first vet visit, so we can to that.

We are cutting back a little bit-definitely spending less on each other. We also aren't exchanging with too many friends and usually I go overboard but this year I managed to keep it under $50 for each. Then with another group of friends we decided to do a Secret Santa under $25.

I also only used my credit card for DH's gift so he wouldn't figure out what it is but payday is Friday so I will pay it off then. I'm really proud of myself. This is the first year I didn't need to use my credit card.

with the wedding being this year, and building a new home, we have our selves on a very tight budget. I probally squeek when I walk. somebody mentioned on here about holiday traditions and said about her and her dh buying each other a ornament every yr. and exchanging them on Christmas eve, I ran that by dh and he loved that so were doing that this yr. and only spending $100.00 on each other if even that. we just really want to get our home done.

I just lost my job, so we definitely cut back this year! I'm kind of proud of myself that I was able to get all the kids on our list without spending too much. DH & I aren't really exchanging, originally we were going to get a big gift and it would be for both of us (like the Wii), but instead I think we're going to get one gift for each other and keep it to $25-$50. So far I bought him a tie for a wedding we're going to on 12/28, oh yea he's going to love me since he hates 'dressing up'
