Throwing away BIG furniture?? How/rules?

I live in queens and we are getting ready to move soon (yea!) and we need to throw away our couches (they are gross or I would offer them up for free to anyone who wanted). Is there rules to throwing them away? Or is it just like regular trash? I looked for a garbage rules website in Queens but can't find anything! Any of you Queen/Brooklyn girls have any info?? Thanks!

You could put them out the morning that the garbage men come, they may take it, but chances are you s/b waiting for them with a $20 bill in your hand.

One day a week is considered 'bulk garbage' day. Thats the day the garbage man will pick up the big stuff.

But if you live on a well trafficed block, even the crappiest stuff gets taken by someone.

definitely put it out front. the scavengers come and take everything!

I should know...I am a guilty garbage picker / treasure finder....

DH found info on the NYC sanitation site...

it just said...upto 6 pieces on garbage day...

also like Stef said...a lot was taken...(which helped since we had more than 6!!)

Here's a link to the Dept of Sanitation..you can search on the type of item that you need to get rid of and it tells you what you need to do. There is also a restriction on the # of items you're allowed to throw out at a time (who knew!)
