I just got a government job! I have not started yet though.. was hired May 5th, but they had to run a background check, fingerprints and I had to fill out like 11 pages of paperwork and send it back... Did you have to go through the same process? How do you like working for the government? Any tips or anything? My job is in the VA hospital doing billing related stuff. Thanks in advance!!

Re: Tilde~ & any other Gov't employees
I love being a Fed! Three sites you'll want to scan regularly:
FNR is an AM station down here in the DC area, but they do live streaming on their site. They are really a great resource for things. Federal Times has good articles on benefits and random Branch-wide things, and OPM is great for operating status (i.e., do we get a snow day )
Congrats on getting your job!

Re: Tilde~ & any other Gov't employees
Congratulations! I love working for the government - it is amazing!!! I have insane benefits and flexibility here.
Also, even if you dont LOVE it - wait three years. After three years you have 'seniority' and you are considered first for OTHER government jobs and they even try to help you get them!
I remember the background check, it made me SO nervous - even though I obviously have nothing on my record LOL my friend got a job with the secret service and its a nine to ten month security check!!!!
Oh and another tip?People get comfortable and don't bother moving up DONT FALL IN TO THE TRAP! Try to move up, don't worry if everyone hates you - just keep moving up ! You don't want to be one of those women in the same job for thirty years and bitter!!!
