Re: Tiny vent....
next time one of then does that say 'are you my husband, no, so don't call me that''would your wife like it if she knew you called me that?'
'(look around) i'm sorry i dont see anyone else in the room that goes by that name'
'hi, i've worked here for 3 years, maybe you should learn my real name'
or when they call you honey call them dickhead, when they call you sweetie call them shitface, etc. when they ask why all the name calling, ask them if they like how it feels.

Re: Tiny vent....
I think its rude to use terms like that at work too because its a professional place (or supposed to be) and it should be more personal... like using your ACTUAL name.

I think it's inappropriate. It probably wouldn't bother me so much, but I understand where you're coming from and it's completely unprofessional.
A vendor who was meeting with an attorney here the other day told me I have a phone sex voice and I should quit working here and start working at a 1-900 number.
ETA: Now THAT was inappropriate.

Re: Tiny vent....
I hate when anyone calls me sweetie or hun unless its DH or my mom. No matter who it is.And not to mention, not appropriate name for co-workers to call you.

Re: Tiny vent....
It is EXTREMELY inappropriate in the work place, in any work place. I do have to say though working on a construction site, I am treated like I'm just for the eyes and not for the brains. Men are pigs on worksites and most feel it's no place for a woman. It's degrading and inappropriate! And EXTREMELY un-called for! My name is Linda, not hun, sweetie, doll, etc!
PS - I like what one poster said about asking them how they would feel if their wife got called 'doll' at work! I know I'd be P*SSED if I heard some girl on the job call DH 'doll' or 'hun'!

I have a bad habit of this.. I use sweetie all the time .. I used to do it back and forth with some clients who I am close with but its a big no no apparently so I dont do it as much. I never realized how people dont like it I just was tryin to be nice and warming to them.

Re: Tiny vent....
I HATE that! DH is a professor, and he used to say 'sweetie' to some of his students and colleagues (when he was in grad school, not as a full time professional). As SOON as I heard him call one of his students sweetie, I brought it to his attention--he had no idea he was saying that, and he was mortified! In his work environment, he can get in huge trouble for saying those sort of things. I don't see why it's ok calling women names like that (whether it's offensive or not) in any other work place either.

I dunno- it's different since you're a woman. My female co-worker calls me 'Babe' all the time but she calls everyone that. I think it's more the fact that it's men doing it.
