ok the people on mtv's 'true life : I'm New Yorican' are really getting on my nerves. WHY CAN'T THEY PUT INTELLIGENT PEOPLE ON THE SHOW???? WHYYYYYYYY do they hafta be the most ghetto, loudmouth, uneducated people MTV can find? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

they always pick the worst ppl for that show, its to show things to the extreme. Like if its about shopping addicts they pick those who go beyond the extreme, if its about drugs, if its about OCD, eating disorders, even the show about staten island they did the same thing. All those ppl on that show are always a bit much. But kind of the point of the show, if they pick a neighborhood or certain ppl then they wont pick the intelligent normal ones, well thats also bc its not the point of the show.

Because they have to pick what they think the stereotype is. That is so annoying. I dont even think I wanna watch that true life. It will just upset me. Intelligent people? Wheres the fun in that?

it annoys the crap out of me because by posting this as a 'true life' episode they give viewers the idea that we're ALL like this. I'm from spanish harlem and I didn't feel the need to speak a certain way, dress a certain way. of course culture plays a role in the way a group of people behave and there are times I can get loud or if i get angry have an accent...but my biggest pet peeve is when media constantly portrays spanish people or minorities in general in a certain light. like in prisonbreak when they have sucre say things like 'mira mami and 'ay ay ay' it gets my blood boiling.

we don't all walk around going 'andale arriba' yknow?

Exactly. I know what you mean. Granted, I know a LOT of NuYoricans like the ones portrayed but its funny cause I know the producers were like 'lets find the loudest most obnoxious, uneducated' looking people cause thats what makes good TV. MTV is crap. Same channel that has shows with parents pimping out their kids. Im just confused why they would single out 'NuYoricans' for a show. Does it show some type of 'hurdle' we have to overcome or something? Im catching the last 15 mins right now.

yeah true life is bad at doing this and really showing stereotypes. I remember when true life im from staten island came out, it turned into a big show and most of staten island was VERY upset at the girls on the show bc they felt they were showing the stereotypical SI girls. They did a true life, where are the ppl from past shows now and they also showed the girls who were in staten island. They showed them cutting cursed out at clubs and ppl being upset with them and even someone writing something about them in a local paper. One girl didnt get it bad bc on the show they felt she was ok and didnt show them in a badlight but before it aired she was getting treated badly.
