Re: Topic of the day for 10/3/2002

Oh geez, you mean I have to think??!!!!
I am no good at describing things, let's see...

I want a finished basement for DH to go play (and display ALL his Frankensteins, Spongebobs, Little Big Heads and all the other crap he 'collects' -- worse then a kid, I tell ya), I want an inground pool, I want 5 or 6 bedrooms -- enough for kids, us and guests -- money is no object? make it 7 then!! (LOL), 4 bathrooms -- definitely with a jacuzzi in the master bathroom, a family room w/a fireplace, a 'formal' livingroom, a big diningroom, an even bigger kitchen with TOO many cabinets, a laundry room, an office (to put the computer I don't have, LOL ), I want gorgeous landscaping (I am NOT the green thumb, but hubby is). I want a cathedral entrance and a kind of spiral staircase. Let's see, did I leave anything out? OH WAIT, I WANT CLOSETS, LOTS AND LOTS OF CLOSETS!!

And I really DO want the Soprano house!!!!

Um, do you think I want it all or WHAT???

If money were no object I would have more than one!

A ski house - It would be a log cabin style, casual open floorplan with 4 bedrooms a large deck fireplaces and a hot tub.

A beach house - Not abig mans just something on the water.

Home Base - Now this is the hard one I dont know if I would want to be in NYC or on the island someplace like Sands Point so I cant tell you about the style.

If only I had such problems

OK I love the Sopranos house myself, but if money is no object....I would diffinitely have a penthouse in NYC probably in one of Trump's property. I would have a Hampton house -not where the kids go but where the rich and famous hang out. A little houe on Fire Island with at least 3 bedrooms on the beach so DH and I can take the kids.

well, we live on an acre, so I would love to keep my property. I love the look of a high cathedral entrance. I llove to have a HUGE kitchen with an island. Ohh, when you walk in...there is a bridal staircase by the entrance. I want 4 bedrooms. A HUGE masterbath with double vanity sinks, and a huge shower with a bench. A jacuzzi in the bath, as well as on my BIG wrap around porch with a private area for a hot tub.
A HUGE masterbedroom with a fireplace...and his/hers walk in closets. Boy my list can go on, and on.

Fran - if ONLY we had such problems! I agree!

Okay - if money was no object:

My dream home is situated on a secluded piece of land overlooking the ocean (not necessarily on Long Island). It has floor-to-ceiling windows in the enormous great room that open out onto a wrap-around deck (not necessarily Victorian...I'm thinking something more contemporary, but not ultra-mod). The floors would be all hardwood with plush carpeting only in the bedrooms and the greatroom/den. The greatroom would have a dual use fireplace (shared with the formal living room) with a terra cotta tile surround in the den, and glossy mosaic tile surround in the living room. Both sides would also have wooden mantels - maple in the den and cherry in the living room.

The greatroom would have an expansive (large) entertainment center with big screen TV, state of the art VCR, DVD, stereo equipment and surround sound, recessed lighting and big, soft comfy furniture.

The kitchen and formal dining room would be set off slightly in a separate area of the main level, so that eating and food prep are hidden and so the furniture doesn't smell from cooking. The kitchen would be ultra modern with a wooden butcher block center island and hanging pot rack. Oversized stainless steel appliances and granite countertops with maple cabinets. The dining room would be oblong with a chair rail all around. It would have built in china cabinets lining one entire wall to house expensive china and crystal (service for 24).

There would be a powder room in the two-story cathedral entry foyer that has a tile floor.

There would be 5-6 bedrooms upstairs. The master suite begins with a small sitting area just outside french doors. The room would be large enough to fit our queen sized knotted pine mission style furniture set and have a small dressing table for me to sit and apply makeup or try on jewelry. Hidden behind the mirror of the dressing table is the in-wall safe that secures my treasured jewels - LOL - I had to throw this in...again, money is no object here.

A large hall lined with walk-in closets opens up to the master bath. Inside is a extra large two person shower that has water jets from every direction and is hidden on one side with glass block. The double sinks are on the opposite wall and the commode is tucked away in a small, separate room. At the other end of the bathroom lies the oversized jacuzzi tub that is framed on two sides by large windows overlooking the ocean/beach.

One bedroom would be the baby's nursery, decorated with soft, muted colors like sage and pale yellow. The furniture would be light oak. The room would have white wainscotting on the lower half of the wall and built in toy/book shelves on one wall.

Another room is a guest suite with a full bath and walk-in closet. The furniture would be an eclectic mix of antiques procured from my expansive travels all over the world.

Another room is an office suite with a small adjoining room for meetings and at-home business dealings. The office would be equipped with state of the art computers, phones and a wireless LAN for multiple high-speed connections.

I could go on and on...but this is getting ridiculous....I have a VERY VIVID imagination when it comes to dreaming about a home.
Too bad the only things I mentioned in this post that we actually own are the mission furniture and the DVD/VCR and wireless LAN! LOL!
Hope you guys enjoyed my daydream as much as me! LOL!

Re: Topic of the day for 10/3/2002

Well hubby's dream house is the house on Dune Road where they filmed Weedend at Bernies. He keeps telling me we're buying that house when we win lottos. Now I'm hoping we don't win lotto because it's everything I don't want - modern, right on the beach, no trees, can't have an english country garden and vegetable garden....

My dream house....

It sits on about 20 acres or more. Outside are wonderful, casual English country gardens with flowers galore and a traditional kitchen garden full of vegetables. And a grotto-style pool for taking a dip on hot days and evenings. And a winding path leading to the horse barn.

Inside, lots of wood, high ceilings, dark beams here and there, a wonderful staircase.... The fireplace would be natural river stones with a massive wood mantle. In the kitchen I'd have a fireplace too. Lots of counter space and a commercial gas stove with 6 burners. I also want a large walk-in pantry with shelves and a work space, for all my cooking and serving pieces. And a desk area for my computer and cook books and appointment calendar, etc.

I'd like an open floor plan - a great room, where the kitchen is open to the dining area featuring a large table that seats 10 or 12 (before we put in the leaves) and a wonderful chandelier that looks like something from an old lodge.

We'd need a personal office space for hubby, and a large room for all my crafts and knitting and needlework.

A large comfy bedroom and bathroom, with a walk-in dressing area - closet space and built in shelves. A couple of guest rooms with private bathrooms...

And lots and lots and lots of storage - upstairs, downstairs, in the garage, the basement, etc. Built in cupboards, shelves, etc. And a laundry room and an area upstairs where I can leave an ironing board set up, just for occasional pressing. And a mud room by the back door, for messy stuff.

Little details - solid oak doors, small ceramic tiles in the bathroom, wide plank wood floors, Oh - most important - the summer porch. I grew up in a house that had a large screened in summer porch overlooking a revine. It had a sofa, a glider, and dining table and we could practically live out there. It had a canvas roof and awnings that pulled up the sides to keep the rain out. It was wonderful to sit there and listen to a gentle rain falling. I miss that...

Hmmm... it's becoming obvious why it's been hard for us all to find our dream houses within our budgets!
