transcript of marriage license...is this a mistake?
I got a few copies of our marriage license (town of islip) for various agencies/groups that need a copy on file for the name change. All the info is correct but under 'name and official position of person solemnizing the marriage' it says 'Edward McGregor' 'priest'
Now this may be a stupid question but that is not the priest who married us....
Is this someone from the diocese or something or is it a mistake?

It may be the pastor or something if you wer emarried by one of the other priests. Are you sure that is not the name of anyone at your church?

It could be the name of the 'head' priest at the church. Mine has both.

Thanks, I know all the priests at the church, it is not anyone I know. Think I should I call the town???

I would leave it alone. You got the legal document and no one will know, really, but you.

this is odd but i just checked mine (i have some copies at work) and on ours there is no space for a priest's name. it's just town of smithtown and it has the clerk's signature, our info, parent maiden names, etc.....i think we got a separate document from the church but I have to check. well, i got a new SS card and all my other info changed so i guess it doesn't matter.

Yeah on our original there is no priest, it is just as you said, it is only on the extra copies we requested. I do have a separate document from church that is all correct as well. Very weird!

hmmm...that's weird, jean! i never requested extras; i only photocopied the original. i wouldn't worry, though hon.

thanks! I need to send copies with seal to my IRA and school and other places so that's why I got them...pain in the butt!

I agree... and it's funny.. when I got my official transcripts, they spelled DH's name wrong on them!! I thought it was very funny - so I called the Town of Islip and told them their error and they sent me new ones... but I kept the ones witht he wrong name - at $10/each, I may need more!
