So back in 2003 I had a car and sold it to my sister-in-law in late 2005. I still have the title in my name and want to transfer it over to her.
How do you do this? I'm a little confused and I don't want to mess it up. Do I sign it over in the back of the title and do they have to fill out a form at the DMV? Do I have to go with her to the DMV or can she do this on her own?

If you happen to find this out, let me know! My car is in my mom's name, and I'd like to put it in mine but I think it's a LOT of paperwork, etc. so I am being lazy LOL!

WE didn't do it out of lasiness also...but now that I'm changing my last name I think we should probably do it...LOL

Go on the DMV website...it's just one form and it's pretty simple. And I think you do have to sign the back of the title. But, the DMV website has the answer. I did this as my car was in my mom's name when I changed my license, I did it all at once. You can print the form from the website and fill it in.
I just did this. The previous owner has to sign the back. And the new owner has to go to the DMV with ID and insurance card. Make sure you do it right because I waited at the DMV for over an hour and when they finally called my number they wouldnt accept my proof of insurance because it had DH's name on it. Mine was on there too but I guess they didnt want to deal with me. It was aggravating. Also make sure they check off that it was a gift.

as long as the car is in the other persons name (not a loan company) you can sign the back and have the person bring it to the dmv.

OK one more question regadring this. The title to the car has my old address, which is my parents address. I have since moved and my licensie is under my new address. When I sign the back do I list my old address or my new address???
