Transit Strike

Original post by bearsbabe_113

Ok, my wonderful neurotic DH just called me up in a huff asking (actually screaming) about the GW bridge during the supposed strike. Does anybody know if the 4 person carpool thing is in effect for those crossing to and from Jersey? I can't believe that it would affect that bridge also, but Joe's boss told him he better figure out a way to get to work and now he's freaking. Mind you, I'm clueless as to how I'm getting here and not for nothing, I'll be da**ed if I have to use my own personal time!!!

Not for nothing, but Mayor DH is a real a$$**** with the comment about sharing cars/cabs w/total strangers and 'not worrying' because there will be cars in front of you, behind you and on either side of you. Oh, ok, if some schmuck pulls out a knife or gun, it's ok because there'll be people surrounding me to help me afterwards. Isn't that nice. What a friggin d***head!!!!

Re: Transit Strike

April, it looks like you're right from that picture!! Uh oh!! Somebody is not going to be a happy camper in my house!!!! I think he'll just have to go wayyyyy out of his way and go over the Whitestone to the Cross Bronx to the GW??? I'm not even going to tell him until Sunday!!

As for the private bus lines (Triboro, Queens Surface, etc.) -- I asked the bus driver this morning and he said they aren't going out, even though it's the same union, because they (MTA) didn't go out with them in the summer. So I guess it's Tit for Tat with them!

Michele, it doesn't start in LI, but it takes effect once you get to Queens, before you approach the Midtown tunnel.

Re: Transit Strike

Hi...sorry to jump over to his board but I thought this website could help you guys. I do contingency for my firm and we've been working on internal plans for this strike for months. The site gives alternate transportation options. There will be an HOV-4 restriction in effect during the work week if there is a strike. Which means no one with less than 4 people can enter the city through any means, no bridges, no tunnels. Hope this helps.

bearsbabe-re: bus

I live in Fresh Meadows, and catch the Wall Street bus on Union Tpke. There are also 6th and 3rd Ave. buses running on Union Tpke. When I lived in Forest Hills, I used to catch Triboro express buses on Yellowstone Blvd. They ran up 6th Ave and up 3rd Ave. I'm not sure if this helps you since you are much further west in Astoria.

Check their websites for the routes. I think that Queens Surface is www.qsbus.com
