Treadmill walkers: how many miles do you walk per week?
Just wanting to see if what I am aiming to do is in the norm or not! And thought we could use a little discussion about exercise and fitness.
I gave myself a goal today of going to the gym every mon, wed and fri and doing 3 miles (combo of brisk walking and jogging) on mon and fri, and 4 on wed, for a total of 10 miles a week. I will also do 20 mins of weights on all three days. I noticed a big difference in the look of my thighs (small buldges I had on the sides of my upper thighs went away!) this summer when I did a similar routine so I am hoping I will start to see even more results now.
For walkers - what's your routine? How many miles do you aim to do per week?

When I walk on the treadmill I usually do about 3 miles or so and change the incline as well throughout.

When it's nice out (meaning not raining or 15 degrees), I walk from my office to Penn and from Penn to my office, which is 2 miles round trip. I think you're supposed to aim for 2,000 steps a day. If you're walking instead of running, I would aim for at least 3 miles a day.

I used to go to the track and power walk a mile every day. Now I'm stuck at home with the treadmill. Lately I've been doing about 1.5 miles each day Mon-Fri. As well as this, I do squats & situps. That's it for now. I'd rather not join a gym so this seems to be working out very well for me

10,000 steps a day is the aim if you're following one of those step programs. I used to wear a pedometer to keep track. 2000 steps = 1 mile -- so 10,000 = about 5.

that sounds like a good routine! I used to walk during lunch and then do weights at the gym at night and got in good shape that way. Now I do more running and eliptical but it sounds like you have a good routine so far!

i wish i had a treadmill, although our apartment is so small it would be either that or a bed! I was doing so well over the summer, running everyday, about two miles i think. I need to get an odometer, if thats what its called. This cold weather has me inside and i'm working out a lot in my living room, but its just not the same. I can't wait for warm weather!
