TUESDAY 4/27/10 NWQOTD

Congratulations - we've all survived Monday!

I think because I'm going on vacation with my mom and my sister, I'm feeling nostalgic - so today's question:

What was your favorite family vacation as a child?

I'm sure you all think you know my answer - but SURPRISE!!! I am saving my Disney trips for a Disney question of the day later in the week.

I think some of my best family vacations were in the early 1970's (before Disney even opened). Every summer we'd go up to Lake George with my mom's family (aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) for a week. We'd rent a bunch of cabins right on the lake and us kids would run wild. The best part - we'd always do it the last week of August so every year, we'd celebrate my birthday up there! We did this from the time I was 2 straight up till I was 8 (the last trip was when my younger sister was 1). It was a blast - my cousins and I would swim in the lake, rent paddle boats and canoes, go in the pool, walk around the cabin site and at night, we'd go into town and do 'spin art' - just everything a summer vacation should be for a kid.

My parents would let me pick where we would go on vacation so for 9 years straight we went to Disney. Those were my fav!

My parents are Disney addicts, so really the ONLY vacation we ever went on was to Disney. We had annual passes and would got 3 or 4 times a year. We were probably the only kids in the world who got sick of Disney at a point.

A lot of the times we would go down with my cousins and rent a house for the week – that was always a lot of fun.

Well when we were kids we obviously loved Disney & all of the ski trip we took. But as we got older i really appreciated being able to visit Europe (especally Italy several times). Most people never have a chance to see some of the amazing architecture culture & history there is in this world.

Growing up I would never go on vacation with my parents-I know kind of strange, but my brother and sister would go with them, they are twins and I would always opt to stay home because that meant I would get to go with my grandma to California to stay with family there. Those were my favorite vacations going with my grandma to California every summer 5 years in a row for a month and staying with family. I got to be an only child for that period of time-it was great.

Lake Tahoe when I was 10. My family and my best friend's family went together and we went skiing. The hotel we stayed at was so fun and we would just run wild around the hotel with our siblings. That was the first BIG vacation we ever took. It was so fun!

ooh thats a tough one, we went on some fabulous vacations

Maybe Italy? Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, that one was pretty amazing.

Or staying at the Guanahani in St. Bartz.

There are so many that could be in the running.

When my dad's business was in its hay day we took the most amazing vacations. Ah the good old days.

We used to go to Hershey Park a lot when we were little, so those were the best vacations. I actually would have liked going to Busch Gardens Williamsburg the best, but we almost lost Angel at a truck stop in Jersey because he wriggled out of this harness and then ran around like wild, scratched my father to shiz, who got infected really bad but wouldn't go to the dr so was hopped up the whole vacation, and ran around like a bat out of hell, almost getting smushed by 18 wheelers until finally panicking and stopping around a corner of the building where I was able to grab him. I still have nightmares about that day. My poor kitty.

But other than that, it was an awesome vacation

My family went to Illinois to visit my uncles every couple of years....and we traveled by AMTRAK!

Besides that, we didnt go on very many vacations...we went to Disney once & I remember waiting for the ferry boat across from Magic Kingdom and saying to my mom 'I can stand right here all day and stare at the castle' So that was pretty cool.

I went to Europe w/ my sister though when i was 19 and that was awesome! Contiki tours are pretty freaking cool.

We took one as a whole family (my mom and her two sisters and their families) to the Outer Banks. It was so much fun to have everyone under one roof and just mess around and go to the beach every day.
