I just saw a promo on WE TV for this new show called 'I Want To Save Your Life' basically this weight loss coach is called by a family member of an obese person. He follows this person around (unbeknown to them) to restaurants, the supermarket and documents what they eat. He raids their cabinets, etc.... This kind of approach bothers me, but it got me thinking....
Is this approach any less invasive as 'Intervention' I kind of think it is, since the addicts on Intervention have agreed to be in a documentary about addiction. BUT on the flip side, the addicts are still blindsided with an intervention....
This new show on WE just seems a little creepy to me...
Discuss.....
Edited for spelling.

I think its good in a way that they will be taught how to eat right. I remember that oprah episode where the kids had no clue how much they were really eating. Some people really dont know better. BBUUUT, I think I would be pizzed if my family did that to me.
I mean its not like on what not to wear where u get told you dress like a hot mess but u get $5000.

Hmmm... I think that it doesnt sit right with some people b.c society feels empathy for obese people. As adults, we know better than to say 'ugh, look at that big person', however if we see an alcoholic or a drug addict we might say something like 'look that junkie' etc.
I am not a thin person, but I am also nowhere near obese. However, I know what it's like to weigh 200 pounds and I could tell you that it s u c k s. Even though people in my family would say to me 'you are fat, lose weight, stop eating, go work out etc' and I knew they were right, it still hurt my feelings. Did it make me want to lose the weight? No. But eventually I decided I needed to (for me).
If my family would have called the show on me, I would have been PISSED at first. BUT once I started seeing results I would have been thankful.
In the end, obesity is a disease - and it's not easy to overcome. By the time an obese person decides that they want to lose weight, they need all the help and support that they can get. I haven't seen the show yet. But I think it's a good idea. Perhaps not too PC, but the people getting the help will def. appreciate it in the end when they are living a healthier lifestyle. It's not easy putting the fork down, or staying away from fatty foods. It's embarrassing going to the gym and attempting to run when all you see is skinny people running and looking beautiful.
BUt in the end it will save their life.

ITA - I think it's the stalking, documenting part that kind of creeps me out. Again, I wish i could find the commercial b/c that's what doesn't sit well with me!

wow I dont know how I would feel about that- I am not obese but definately 10-20 pounds over what I should/would like to weigh
but my mom is heavy and people think nothing of saying rude condescending things to her and she takes it in stride, but I know its hurtful to her.
i dont know about that show, I would find it difficuult to watch- I cry at the biggest loser

I definitely get what you're saying! I didn't even think about it like that. When I was 15 I was VERY overweight and just NOT HAPPY. I wanted to lose weight so badly, but like you said - it's not easy!!
One day my mother decided that we should ALL go on a diet. So it was her, me, and my older sister that joined LA Weightloss. At first I was kind of hurt that she was possibly 'tricking' me into doing it, but then i realized that I DID wanna lose the weight and she was just trying to help. And the fact that we were all doing it together really made it easy. And on LA Weightloss, they simply teach you how to proportion what you've already been eating. It's not like one of those other diets where they just mail you food
So yeah - i ended up losing close to 100 pounds in that one year and I am still sooooo grateful for that because i've never put it back on. My life would be very different today if I hadn't lost the weight, because i was a very different person then.
So yes - I can see this being one of those. The people may feel uncomfortable and hurt and pisssed off, but in the end they'll probably be so grateful! Despite the fact that they were a little humiliated. And if they actually LOSE the weight, then they would certainly sign the contract to be on tv. lol. You want everyone to see your success.
HOWEVER - even tho I can see that it's a good thing to help these people, putting it on tv is a little odd. I just don't see it being a fun show to watch for anybody unless they are also (or have at some point been) struggling with their weight. Pretty boring otherwise
