we had the same thing...MIL hated our condo...it was a big issue..we just went and did what WE wanted because we knew it was good for us! Don;t listen...do what you need/want to do!

Im just soo sick of feeling like we are not good enough!!! DH is the only one that lived with his mom when his parents got a divorce and i feel like she only seems to be concerned with his life...
his brother got a house in april and prob had no say in anything and yeah his house is perfect even tho it needed a lot of work! they got the house the same time we got our apt last year and our apt was quaint (i hate that word!!!) and everything was soo great and perfect with his brothers house!!
im over it! chris is now mad at me because when he got off the phone with his mom i asked what she said and he said she said 'she has to get use to not having a basement' umm why would she need to get use to that???!??!?!?! she is not living there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im soo upset right now and i cant say a word cuz he will take his mothers side over his wife!! i just wanna cry!

i hate hearing this!!! Now that I am married and officially a part of the family I am not holding my tongue anymore if issues come up.
Why not just be happy. next time she comes over I would make a remark like, 'dont you just love our house....'

We didnt involve either families cause their opinion didnt really matter.
I have found that the less you involve them in major things like this the better. We are hopefully closing next week and neither family has yet to see anything but a picture of the outside.
I think from here on out do not get MIL involved in things that are between you and DH.....if she isnt paying she doesnt have a say!!!!! its been my motto since wedding planning.

Saw your original post and I get how you feel.
DH and I are sort of in the same situation.
BIL and SIL can do no wrong; MIL runs to them, supports them, cooks for them, buys cards/gifts for them and their son, etc.... and because DH picked me (we've had a rocky relationship MIL and I) we get the short end of the stick.
You and Chris have to do what's best for you and what you guys want. Yes there will be comments, etc but it's your life. You love that house, you see yourself in that house then you go for it.
As for Chris taking her side, I get that too. It *****.
Hope things work out for you both!

I am so sorry. These sort of issues are so difficult to deal with but if it makes you feel any better, WE ALL deal with them unfortunately.
I know for me, I usually just vent to someone who doesn't have a personal interest in the situation and I end op feeling a lot better. Some times you just have to get your frustrations out, let the comments roll off your back, and move on...
(I can only imagine when little ones come into the picture...fun, fun, fun!)
