Ugh it's just been a crappy year....

Original post by GettinHutched

Sorry this is long...just need to let it out.

Seems like after Brett & I got married, things were going down the tubes. Not for us personally of course. We're both doing well, got a house, all that stuff.

But first my mom is diagnosed with breast cancer. Luckily, she's finishing up with radiation and should be fine. Next, my ILs were on the outs and almost got divorced. My niece has always had health problems and needed eye surgery, and may also have a syndrome (related to a chromosome that we still have to figure out where it comes from in our family) that might be contributing to her developmental troubles, and then my BIL has a huge relapse with his multiple sclerosis.

I just got so depressed talking to my FIL today...to hear what he has to see when he visits his son. DH and I are up in NJ so we haven't been able to go down to SC to visit, but his Dad says we may not want to see how he is. He doesn't even recognize you sometimes, and he needs help with everything...being fed, etc....

I feel guilty that we have a big trip planned for our anniversary. I feel like we should be seeing his family instead. We booked it before BIL ended up in the hospital.

It was also hard the first few months after we married- that's when mom was diagnosed, and it was hitting me that I wasn't on LI anymore and couldn't drop by whenever I wanted. And his family is in SC....

We need something good to happen already! I know that things could be worse...but wow, when it rains, it pours.

I just needed to let it out a bit. And I don't really want to harp on it with FH because I know it is getting to him, even if he doesn't really show it. Thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry Tara, you're right when it rains it pours. You shouldn't feel guilty, I know it's difficult but try to focus on the positive things going on around you.

Tara,

Unfortunately, that's life.
It really su cks when it throws you so many curves all at once, but in the long run, it will make you stronger and it will make your marriage stronger if you and DH can communicate instead of bottling things up inside.
Great that your mom is doing well with her treatments. Radiation can be more debilitating than chemo, but watch how her strength comes back once that's done.
There is nothing you can do about your IL's marriage, except to lend an ear when it is necessary. Just one of those things you cannot control.
How is your niece doing after her eye surgery ? I just bet that she's a cutie pie.

Your BIL - that is such sad news that he is not doing well. Only the Man knows what is in store for him. All we can do is pray for peace for your BIL and that he has no pain or suffering. It must be so hard on your IL's to see one of their sons this way.

Tara, it is one of the most difficult things on this earth to watch someone you love deal with an illness. You seem to have your eyes full.
My mom had cancer and passed away a few years ago. My MIL has lung cancer and is holding her own for three years now, had really bad times and is doing ok for now.

Don't feel guilty about going away. You and DH are in the process of starting a new life together and need that together time. Be a little selfish, but don't feel guily.
Try to catch a little time to see your mom, to see your IL's and to see your BIL.

Hugs and kisses for you. Things will get better.
